What happened in Turkish football today? 09.02.2017

Besiktas will aim to return to its defence of league title at more focus after Fenerbahce game.

Besiktas would be following to the Turkish Super League with 20th week game against Karabukspor as it would once again restart its aim to defend its league title as coming to the game as leaders.

It needs to be also reminded that this would be a first game since scandalaous Turkish Cup last 16 game which has been actively discussed at our blog during this week and in whole of the Turkish sports media. With club being out of the Turkish Cup with certainly feeling to be done unfairly, it would get even more motivation for the Super League and Europa League and this factor is expected to be shown at the game against Karabukspor. Karabukspor CEO Feridun Tankut did state at this week that Fenerbahce game would provide an extra motivation to Besiktas and hence make them even more aggressive playing. Karabukspor meanwhile is showing a pretty good season providing an impressive season but with Traore not being available at the game tomorrow could make chances Karabukspor even lower.

Besiktas are coming out as favourites with their recent performances at the Super League and also an extra motivation which it recieved from Fenerbahce game could make Karabukspor time pretty tough.

Fenerbahce head coach Dick Advocaat was considering to resign if their lost to Besiktas.

According to the Turkish sports media, Fenerbahce head coach Dick Advocaat was planning to resign from his post if their have lost game against Besiktas at the Turkish Cup as team would have difficult season without much aims.

Rumour at the media states that Dick Advocaat would see it as wrong thing to do and as failure to carry on as being club head coach which is out of the Turkish Cup and far from league title and hence would be seen as he did not do his job well. However, this rumour is an interesting one as Fenerbahce still carries on at the Europa League and would meet against Krasnodar at the next week at the 2nd round. Hence, this rumour is an interesting one as certainly team would put Europa League higher at priority list than Turkish Cup. Right now the team is awaiting a response from Dick Advocaat who had recieved 1 year extension earlier this week, as club advocate Sekip Mosturoglu has stated to club channel.

Either if this rumour was incomplete by media or Dick Advocaat forgot about Europa League(taking account that he has travelled to Spain to check opponents shows how this is impossible), it would be felt strange even for club to accept that resignation.

Emmanuel Adebayor will not be able to play against Kasimpasa.

The most surprising transfer of the past mid-season transfer window Emmanuel Adebayor has become injured referring to statements of the Basaksehirspor head coach Abdullah Avci, hence he would be missing Super League game against Kasimpasa on 20th week game on 12th February.

Avci did actually state that there is chance for him to play as club is awaiting final report from medical staff of the team but stated that the chances are still very low as he become injured against Galatasaray. Taking account that Adebayor is not anymore younger player and is probably close to his retirement, Basaksehirspor and general football fans should take account that he could become easily injured in upcoming games. This blog still believes that he would play an important role to keep players motivated for league title chances as the season progresses but it would be especially done  outside of the field.

Basaksehirspor even without Adebayor would come out as favourites against Kasimpasa as it had come to point of being 2 points behind  leaders without having him at team.
