What happened in Turkish football today? 12.02.2017
Galatasaray didnt use its opportunity to get better place at title race.
Galatasaray has joined among top 5 teams at the table of the Super League which didnt manage to win game following 20th week game as it has lost game against Kayserispor with 2:1 scoreline. After this week Besiktas, Basaksehirspor, Galatasaray have lost 3 points while Fenerbahce and Antalyaspor lost 2 points.
It was expected that Galatasaray would at least show winning spirit performance at the week where teams around them and involved at the title race have lost points but it needs to be stated Kayserispor has wanted to win the game much more compare to Istanbul giants. One of the main aspects of game and whole season that it has conceded 12 goals, including 2 today, from headers which shows that the defence are not at the great form and in general during the game Galatasaray were lacking concentration of the game until 80th minute, however after that its start showing much more attacking football which includes few attacks, goal by Eren Derdiyok, goal by the Lukas Podolski which wasnt count with debatable foul of Eren Derdiyok and chance of Derdiyok to score an important goal at last moment. Even through it is possible that Galatasaray has fought until last minute, it is questionable why it woke up too late at the game when time to save time such an important game was very limited.
Kayserispor has shown once great game as soon as Sergen Yalcin has joined club as it managed to win Galatasaray after providing also great game against Fenerbahce. Being at the relegation zone and creating mess with previous coach, Sergen Yalcin has visibly improved performance of a team and with such performance it should end far away from relegation zone at the end of the season.
Galatasaray has lost a very good opportunity to get to the better point for league title this season but without using this chances it would make its chances to get there even harder. Race is still there but weeks does get less while top teams losing (and in one week) wont happen too often.
Fenerbahce didnt show great reaction against Bursaspor after entering game at advantegous situation.
Fenerbahce was coming as favourite to the Super League 20th week game against Bursaspor as it has got an important morale following Turkish Cup last 16 win against Besiktas and also with Besiktas losing at the league day before. However, with playing for most of the time with an extra player it wasnt able to win game which it was leading.
It needs to be reminded that both goals has come from penalties from hand balls with Fenerbahce penalty was straight-forward while Bursaspor one was debatable. Despite of that, it is most worrying that Fenerbahce didnt able to dominate game at the 2nd half as it was playing with an extra man and quite opposite started playing more slower and defensive football, which was a bit suprising. Fenerbahce as once again has failed to show dominance of the game which it has trouble to respond against teams which are having poor performance in recent weeks. It also needs to reminded that Bursaspor fans and players had provided strong mentally pressure to Fenerbahce which undoubetdly has led them to not show great football. This was an important loss for Fenerbahce and the result could make their chance to get league title even worser.
Fenerbahce has lost chance to end week when both Besiktas and Basaksehirspor has lost 3 points by only reducing point difference to 1 point. It is mostly certain that it needs to improve its performance against Krasnodar on 16th February at Europa League 2nd round 1st leg.
Trabzonspor aims to end this season with only wins.
Trabzonspor carries on its great 2017 year at the Super League as it has won 4 games back-to-back achieving that first time in last 5 years with a goal from Olcay Sahan with also winning one of the tough opponents Osmanlispor in Ankara.
Trabzonspor seems to be unstoppable team right now and even through its aims for this season are not very bright it does show an image that it would be a team to beat for rest of the season and certainly is sending strong message to other teams for the next season. It has started game very well and has shown pretty attacking football with Sahan scoring a goal at the 1st half. Osmanlispor it needs to be stated has shown great reaction at the 2nd half but with good goalkeeping of the Onur Kivrak it has managed to win an important game against its opponent and would certainly now aim for 5th position at the Super League which with how Turkish Cup would develop could be enough for them for Europa League qualification. The team has been criticised during last year and also 1st half season but right now it has shown u-turn and in fact is showing best performance at league since famous match-fixing season.
Trabzonspor this performance could also have direct impact to the league title race as the team which does manage to beat them would get an advantage. Trabzonspor for rest of the season does show that it aims to win all games, but there is still 14 games and its not easy task at all.
