What happened in Turkish football today? 03/01/2023

Mete Kalkavan has ended his referee career.

Turkish referee Mete Kalkavan who had provided some strong and memorable performance in recent seasons has ended his career and would carry on at referee academy as VAR educational representative.

Even through in general Turkish referees has been showing some poor results in recent years including this season, Mete Kalkavan despite of having some downsides and criticisms for number of clubs in some games, in general did provide some good performance at key games. Stating that, it was visible that Kalkavan is having some drop of performance during this season and hence such a decision from him should not be seen as big surprise and his new role with taking account his experience would be to help Turkish football to move ahead especially at one of problematic areas of VAR.

Mete Kalkavan hence did make an important decision for leaving side but timing has been on right time for sure.

Antalyaspor has terminated contact with its player Sinan Gumus.

Antalyaspor has terminated contract with its player Sinan Gumus as he is expected to join 1st league side Eyupspor during mid-season transfer window as his recurring age leads him not to provide strong performance at top league.

With Sergen Yalcin joining team on 2nd January, his first action at the team has been to terminate contract with Sinan Gumus but it did look to be an event which would be taking place at any circumstances as it was known that he was having negotiations with Eyupspor which is being coaches by Galatasaray legend player Arda Turan. Sinan Gumus is being one of the player who did show some good performance at Antalyaspor but it was clear that team would not use him in near future and hence it is being win-win situation for both sides.

Right now, it would be expected for Antalyaspor to be finding a replacement for him in upcoming period and our blog would follow all developments in such matter.

Stefano Denswill has become injured at Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor has announced that Stefano Denswill has become injured as Trabzonspor head coach Abdullah Avci would be needed to find solution of this spot as he would need to get some good results if he wants to end league at top spot.

Stefano Denswill without doubt is being one of strongest and key players at the current squad and hence such development would make Abdullah Avci to be unhappy and would be hoping that player would get recovered at shortest period as possible. However, right now Avci would be looking into ways how to strength his side for upcoming games at the league at the midfielder despite of not having its key players for such position and might possibly look for solution at transfer front.

Therefore, Abdullah Avci would need to find productive ways how to fill space left from Stefano Denswill which would help side for teams to get crucial spots for keeping its chances to get European football spots.
