What happened in Turkish football today? 20/04/2022

Sivasspor beat Alanyaspor with playing most of 2nd half with 10 men.

Sivasspor has managed to get win against Alanyaspor at Turkish Cup semi-final 1st leg game with last minute goal from Kesgin despite of the fact that it has played entire amount of 2nd half with 10 men.

It needs to be mentioned that Sivasspor did start game in pretty passive mode without getting any upper hand and control of the game and hence has conceded a goal on 6th minute from free kick of Emre Akbaba. After that moment, it slowly got control of the game and has scored goal with Yatabare from corner kick. After getting red card towards end of the 1st half, game as would been expected did go into hand of Alanyaspor who has controlled more and went more attacking game, but Sivasspor has stayed focus for 2nd half with providing strong defensive game and hence preventing Alanyaspor to get into difficult opportunities. Sivasspor did eventually find an important goal on 90+2' minute with Kesgin goal and got win from away fixture.

Alanyaspor on other hand, did start in good tempo with providing strong attacking game but as game continued did lose upper hand and had trouble to show creative attacking and tempo game towards opponent goals without finding how to overpass Sivasspor defence. As been noted several times at our blog, without showing creative and fast paced game against closed defence, it would be hard to find goal which side been seeked for and eventually would concede with effective counter-attack from Kesgin. Still, Sivasspor needs to improve its performance for 2nd leg as it still turn around this tie due of no away-goal rule being present anymore.

Sivasspor did get crucial win with playing one-less man for 2nd half due of strong and organised game for almost whole game.

Trabzonspor got confidence back thanks to Cornelius goal.

Trabzonspor got an important advantage even through minumum one during Turkish Cup semi-final 1st leg game against Kayserispor thanks to the goal from Andreas Cornelius.

Trabzonspor had shown some feeling pressure or relaxation during recent weeks of the Super League which affected negatively to they Turkish Cup game as it didnt provide fast tempo which has been expected from them. It is true that Kayserispor without doubt did also show strong resistance and game against them as they do against big clubs, but Trabzonspor is pretty far from dominance of the games which it had some months ago. Still, this win would be important one both to get to Turkish Cup final game and also getting morale for upcoming league games as it is being 4 point behind of title even if Fenerbahce and Konyaspor win all of the games. Hence, Cornelius goal might be important boost for rest of the season unless side shows once again some relaxing performance.

Trabzonspor did get important win in such view and is getting closer for ending season double this season.

Kayserispor looked organised at defence but not much at attack.

Kayserispor on they part did provide strong performance against Trabzonspor and would be looking for 2nd leg game as it got loss only for minumum scoreline with 1 goal could be enough for extra-time.

Kayserispor didnt have specifically great season but did provide total different performance against top clubs with getting good results both in Turkish Cup and Super League and hence did provide some important difficulty to Trabzonspor. It did manage to prevent them to get full control of the game but didnt been especially strong at defence possibly side focussing into mainly ending game with 0:0 scoreline. Kayserispor did look great against Trabzonspor on this game but it doesnt need to raise its level of performance if it wants to get better result during 2nd leg.

Kayserispor still showed good performance in defence but needs to be more agressive at front during 2nd leg of this tie.

Results:
Turkish Cup, semi-final, 1st leg
Alanyaspor 1:2 Sivasspor
