What happened in Turkish football today? 12/12/2018
Galatasaray has ended group stage at Champions League with style, despite losing to Porto.
Despite of losing its last group stage game at Champions League against Porto, Galatasaray has managed to end group at 3rd place and get Europa League knockout stages ticket as Lokomotiv Moscow has failed also to win against Schalke 04.
Even through the game has ended with 3:2 scoreline, it needs to be noted that Galatasaray did take game in pretty serious manner aiming for a win and have creating high number of the chances. In fact, and taking account that in overall Galatasaray didnt show great performance during group stage, it did show very good performance in this game and did provide some positive aspects for Europa League campaign even through and once again it needs to get important players during mid-season transfer window. In fact, with Porto also surprisingly taking game seriously, surprising because it has secured leadership at the group, otherwise Galatasaray could have won game in pretty confident manner. Galatasaray as been noted did provide still poor performance at group stage and hence in overall it should be unhappy with such performance at this kind of group.
Galatasaray despite of loss did end group stage with style but as been mentioned needs now to focus for transfers in mid-season transfer window as this squad is not enough both domestically and in Europe.
Draw is enough for Besiktas, but it would be wise to play for a win.
Without doubt, Besiktas game against Malmo would be among one of the most interesting games at the final week of the Group I at Europa League , as all teams still have realistic chances to get to the next stage of the tournament.
It needs to be noted that Besiktas did have pretty dissapointing group stage so far as it didnt manage to win against pretty reasonably not very strong sides but with help of others games at the group, it still has good chances to even end group as leaders, but at worst it needs to aim for a draw which would be enough for 2nd place. In fact, Besiktas has been very lucky to get to this kind of group as this performance in overall didnt gain much praise. Besiktas still needs to focus of course for a win during game as playing for a draw against team which would be aiming for a win could be very risky business. It also needs to be reminded that game would be played at home ground which is good advantage for side and would let high motivation for the players, if fans do their job in best manner which their usually do. It also would be also important for defenders and Loris Karius to show high level performance which their did against Alanyaspor during such crucial game.
Besiktas as been mentioned would need draw at least but with such crucial game for opponent it should aim only for a win without doubt.
Fenerbahce would play formality game against Spartak Trnava.
Europa League Group D last week games has been ended up being formalities as position of all clubs has become clear during last week games, which includes game between Spartak Trnava and Fenerbahce.
As it is known, domestically Fenerbahce has been dropped to relegation zone with its poor performance and poor management, and only aspect which would make team happy is to come to the last game of Europa League at group stage with knowing it has qualified to knockout. Fenerbahce players might also experience tiredness from very harsh action from Fenerbahce CEO Ali Koc to send players to Istanbul via bus after losing to Akhisarspor with 3:0 scoreline at away game. This could affect to the team. Without doubt, both sides could be aiming to end group stage at high note, for Fenerbahce to regain motivation for Spartak Trnava to get prestige. It would be also expected for players to be played with mainly substitutes and lead them to get some European experience from both sides.
Meanwhile, this could be also last game for Erwin Koeman as main coach position at Fenerbahce, as their is expectation for Ersun Yanal to become head coach officially until 17th December game against Erzurumspor.
