What happened in Turkish football today? 02/11/2017

Konyaspor got an important point with good defensive football. 

Europa League Group I 4th week game between Konyaspor and Salzburg has been ended with 0:0 scoreline where the Konyaspor head coach Mehmet Ozdilek 1st game at the Europa League has been ended with a point against what ended up being toughest team at the group at away game and more importantly keeps Konyaspor with having realistic chances to get to the knockout stages.

This is taking account that at the table right now Konyaspor is at last place but  only 2 points behind 2nd placed Olympique Marseille which means 2 win would certainly would bring them ticket to last 32. It needs to be stated that this time defence game of Konyaspor has played its important role as it has prevented its opponents to find goals as their had scored until each game and Mehmet Ozdilek appointment to the team has brought positive aspect to such an important game for Konyaspor. As been expected Salzburg has controlled game more than their opponents with 56% possession and it did lack any attacking football which seems to be main issue at the Konyaspor during this season but as been stated ending such a difficult game for them with a draw and having a good chance for knockout stage is in fact positive thing for team like this. Most importantly this is arleady a big improvement of team performance compare to last season and right now it would await for last 2 games at the group.

Salzburg did in fact dominate game in attacking football and was closer for  a victory but as mentioned focussed game by Konyaspor didnt allow them to find goal. It does look like Salzburg are very close for knockout stages and now question who would join them.

Even through in attacking wise Konyaspor has been below level its needed at this tournament, its defensive was very impressive and once again this point is very crucial for Konyaspor.

Basaksehirspor has improved compare to previous game but still is not enough. 

Basaksehirspor has shown some improvement compare to previous game against Hoffenheim at the Europa League 4th week game and has ended game with 1:1 scoreline but its chances to get to the play-off round still stay very poor with 2 points.

However, it needs to state that Edin Visca goal during last minute of the game has let Basaksehirspor to still have mathematical chances with 2 draws after 4 games since if it has lost game it chance would be going to almost none. As been stated, Basaksehirspor still was able to provide more game at the level with Hoffenheim which has been seen as strongest team at the group and hence we could talk about some improvement and right now team has lost their chances very highly to get to the next stage with poor start, even through its next game has become incredibly important. It does need to be stated that this result would be seen as positive compare to other games and has responded in good manner following 1st game but sadly its not enough to win team like Hoffenheim and get to the next stage at the tournament.

Meanwhile, following result is not also what Hoffenheim has wished for as it stays at 3rd place and taking account how much Hoffenheim needed to win game, it does show how Basaksehirspor has added with their performance by finding last minute goal.

Basaksehirspor hopes to get to the next stage as stated has been reduced but it should stay focussed at the tournament and aim to play its last 2 games with high level performance and aim for a win and show themselves to Europe with good ending of group stage.

Besiktas has shown high level performance against Monaco with only lacking last touches in attack

Besiktas was coming out to the Champions League Group G 4th week game against Monaco being aware that it needed to get a win to guarentee its place for last 16, but with taking account that Monaco needed urgently win at the game also to have any chances it was visible that game would be hard one.

Stating that, it needs to be stated that Besiktas did have very good chances to open scoreline at the 1st half if it has managed to provide much better last touches as with organisational style it created good chances but lacked last touches. As Monaco has found goal before half-time, their did come out with better motivation at 2nd half and did create many chances. It was crucial for Besiktas not to lose game at least as it would provide some nervous moments for last games and penalty kick which came from Ricardo Quaresma and goal from Cenk Tosun has prevented that. Despite of result, it needs to be stated that apart of not converting good chances the team has played very good football and with Monaco showing high level performance in 2nd half, Besiktas has returned with same performance.

Besiktas would now need only 1 point to get to the next stage as it would meet with Porto on 21st November where it would be aiming certainly for more and make it certain that their would end group stage at top spot.
