What happened in Turkish football today? 15.12

Trabzonspor starts Turkish Cup with calm win.

From this week on the Turkish Cup group stages has begun with the big 4 teams starting their journey with 6 games to be played in duration of 2 months. The first big 4 team to start is Trabzonspor which has played against 2nd league (3rd tier) team Nazilli Belediyespor and game has ended with the win of Trabzonspor with a 2:0 scoreline, which could be referred as moderate scoreline compare to strength of both teams.

As been expected due of injuries and rotation number of main Trabzonspor players did not play at the game however the goals has come from regulars, Dame N'doye at 8th minute and 82nd minute by Ozer Hurmaci. The goal scored by N'Doye meanwhile was his first goal for the season even through he had recieved lots of game time which could lead him to recieve lots of motivation for upcoming games in Turkish League and Cup. In fact, maybe he could become a player who would mainly score at cup games.

Trabzonspor might take this season of Turkish Cup in serious manner as this season so far  is not going as good as their planned since in the league there at at the 10th position. Turkish Cup as a tournament even through never been in same level as Super League, it is still been seen as great alternative for bad season to successful cups who have bad season at the league.

Meanwhile, Nazilli Belediyespor was not able to provide surprising result at its first game at the league but it has 5 games ahead of the group stage and still can make its mark with its games and possibly get 2nd spot at the group.

Besiktas is in good condition with goalkeeper being only issue.

After losing to Sporting Lisbon and being eliminated from Europa League at the mid week game it was important to get positive results from Galatasaray derby game, despite of low morale and motivation. However, to all of this psychological factors Besiktas was able to provide better football which was expected and didnt allow Galatasaray to have any control in game with only mistake being conceding goal from goalkeeper Guney Guvenc.

The goal condeded by Guvenc, has shown once again only problem with Besiktas is at and its a factor that it needs better goalkeeper as both Zengin and Guvenc are not given comfortablity to fans and technical staff. Even through Besiktas administrators and technical staff provide full support to both goalkeepers it does underline that it is looking for goalkeeper with Arsenal player David Ospina in top of the list.

Despite of goalkeeping issue, Besiktas hardly has any issues and with yesterday performance showed once again how strong there are as team and why it should consider as one of the main league contenders this season. Also, Besiktas has won 2 derby games in this season so far, record which was not seen in previous few seasons by themselves.

Galatasaray is playing worser football which it played with Hamzaoglu

In contrast to Besiktas, Galatasaray as a team is in very bad condition with problems in morale and physical performance. Despite of scoring a goal by mistake of Guvenc and leading game only 2 minutes, Galatasaray did not provide any worry to Besiktas players during the game.

When Mustafa Denizli came as head coach it was expected for him not to bring great football in such short notice, but it became observable that right now Galatasaray is even worser than it was with Hamza Hamzaoglu. Players are playing very poor and slow football without ability of creating chances and there seems to be absence of self-belief and motivation of players which describe players lacking creative attacks and fast play.

Even through its hard to say that Galatasaray is out of league race as early as now, it is certain that club has recieved huge blow with 9 points behind leaders of Besiktas and with injury of Burak Yilmaz for two weeks it would have even more tougher times. One thing is certain club will have tough time against Akhisar Belediyespor both at club game and league game in Thursday and Sunday respectively.
