What happened in Turkish football today? 10.12
Bad Besiktas defence costed them play-off of Europa League.
For the past few weeks and especially prior to this game it was mentioned that Besiktas is losing its pace and concentration which it had from start of the season. The fact that club is struggling right now in the sense of organised team play has become even more evident from game today. It could be argued that Sporting Lisbon is tough opponent and hence Besiktas should not be criticised too much but we need to agree that back in September Besiktas would at least get draw from same Sporting.
In fact, Besiktas has started game in right way with its performance during first half and first minutes from second half being in very attacking style and not allowing opponents to do organised attacks. Even through club has missed numerous attacks it did provide very dangerous attacks while Sporting had problems at going to attacks, however goal by Mario Gomez at 57th minute had woken up Sporting Lisbon which started to play agressive football which led for club to score in duration of 15 minutes. Surely, defence of the Besiktas should be criticised. After Gomez goal Besiktas was entering to last 30 minutes where Sporting needed to score two, but their scored three.
Besiktas has lost control of the game especially after first goal by Sporting which was obvious mistake by goalkeeper Tolga Zengin which only provided motivation towards Sporting players. After 1st goal Besiktas was not able to defend in same pace and playing at same speed as Sporting. This blog especially yesterday had underlined importance of defence but Besiktas was not able to provide what it needed to do in the back at the end of the game.
Overall, it could be said that once again is important to be remembered with assistance of Besiktas that it doesnt matter how you start your footballing season but how you are ending it, and with the biggest hopes and aims at the Europa League set in August, Besiktas has failed even to enter to play-off stage.
Useless red card has brought needless stress moments for Fenerbahce.
With 1:1 draw against Celtic at the last group stage at the Europa League, Fenerbahce was able to clinch round of 32 spot at the tournament however the red card recieved by Diego during 2nd half of the game raises some issues which could bring result of the game to different outcome. In fact, prior to the red card during at 2nd half, Fenerbahce was playing football which has shown team which wants to win the tournament.
Fenerbahce head coach Vitor Pereira with the way team has played tonight has shown that it was aiming to win the game and possibly get first spot with possible win by Ajax against Molde. In addition, with the Celtic providing poor game at the game tonight has helped Fenerbahce at controlling game up to 2/3 of the game. Despite of the draw tonight, there were some great performance by the club which showed tactical and dynamic football until red card.
One of the positive sides of the game was the first goal scored by Lazar Markovic for Fenerbahce which ended up being a very important goal for the club itself. So far, Markovic was praised for his speed and starting attacks but he was lacking scoring goals and possibly this goal could be first of many for Fenerbahce this season.
Now Fenerbahce will look forward for its opponent during next Monday draw and afterwards would have 2 months for club until 1st leg of round 32 game which is enough time for them to become more stronger. When games for Round of 32 will be played Fenerbahce would probably be much stronger as team is improving by each game and gets closer to the team which Fenerbahce head coach Vitor Pereira wants to see.
Muharrem Usta seems to be focussed more into sportive achievements
Even through its only been less than a week when Muharrem Usta has become CEO of the Trabzonspor, he arleady showed himself to be calm and more focussed into sportive achievements compare to previous CEO Ibrahim Haciosmanoglu. Yes, Haciosmanoglu also wanted to Trabzonspor to be successful, but he was busy to fight with external issues which he himself made up to the club in many occasions.
Muharrem Usta decision to extend head coach position with Sadi Tekelioglu until winter break was smart move as team start playing much better football and plus will bring less worries to players who just came up from tough times. At first sight, Muharrem Usta aim for 50th anniversary league title seems to be ambitious but with way he started it seems to be possible to get that title next season.
Only questionable part is his insistence that he will bring Mircea Lucescu as head coach to the team, even through it does not seem like Lucescu planning to leave Shakhtar Donetsk despite of rumours that he is unhappy with condition club is due of conflict at Donbass region. However, if Usta will be able to bring Lucescu it will be huge movement by club and great advantage to achieve 50th anniversary league title.
