What happened in Turkish football today? 14.12

Besiktas win against Galatasaray has made all of its critics to be quiet.

The game between Besiktas and Galatasaray, the game between Istanbul rivals, was also very crucial game for both teams as been mentioned previously at our blog. The game to some extend has been taking place as was expected with Besiktas being at better condition than Galatasaray, even through it must be noted that team has provided even poorer performance than expected. The scoreline of 2:1 for Besiktas doesnt represent the game at all.

In fact, Galatasaray has scored literally in only position which it had which only happened due of unforgivable mistake by goalkeeper Gunay Guvenc. Guvenc has tried to stop attack at almost half of the field but with the mistake led Sneijder to shoot ball at empty goal. After that Besiktas has shown direct reaction with Mario Gomez scoring after 2 minutes with a class goal. After that Besiktas start playing more active game play with controlling game even more and showing its intention to get a win.

Getting back to first half, it was expected to see goalless draw if referring to statistics as both teams tend to score in last 30 minutes, and in fact all of the goals in today's game has come after 30 minutes. Meanwhile, following the game it is seen that players had been affected by critical comments towards team after Europa League game against Sporting however their did their best to keep quit all its critics with controlled win against Galatasaray.

With following win Besiktas has regained its leadership at the Super League with 2 weeks left until winter break, while Galatasaray has risen point difference to 9 points which made job for Galatasaray and its head coach Mustafa Denizli to stay at title race even more harder.

Sometimes winning 1:0 in weekly bases brings league titles.

It needs to be stated that Fenerbahce did not provide its best football comparing to last games of the club against Basaksehirspor but it is important to note, as was stated yesterday, that club was tired following tough games with tough conditions in last 7 days. What was important at yesterday game was to get win regardless how it was done, and it achieved that by skillful shot by Luis Nani at 84th minute.

Fenerbahce could be criticised by many people by low amount of goals however it didnt lose game for 14 games for now which needs and deserves to get praises. As football viewer myself I would also like to see very attacking football with many goals to happen at football game but in same time it needs to be remembered that in longer term aim is to  lift cup at the end of the season. To achieve that you need sometimes boring games but with points at the bag.

Of course if Fenerbahce provided same kind of football and will lose games (assuming defence was worser than it is) then the perspective would be different. Losing and playing badly would quite naturally would bring problems as it did with numerous clubs at the season and Fenerbahce itself in start of the season. Another point is even through I also agree that it takes long time for club to get into perfect condition, it needs to be certain that most likely we would see different Fenerbahce in May then now.

Fenerbahce and Galatasaray found its opponents at Europa League last 32 stage.

Following Europa League draw of Galatasaray and Fenerbahce and assuming both clubs were entering to draw as unseeded teams, it could be said that both clubs has got good opponents from the draw. Quite naturally, due of political reasons - plane incident between Russia and Turkey, had drawn more attention to Fenerbahce and Lokomotiv Moscow game.

However, without getting into political aspects with me being sure that game will take place on 16th February, and in Istanbul, lets watch at the opponent. Besiktas during its group stage did show that it is possible to beat Lokomotiv Moscow especially at home ground. As been mentioned, Fenerbahce would become stronger in February and would have more games at hand compare to Lokomotiv as Russian league due of winter conditions will not restart until February.

Galatasaray meanwhile has more difficult task as it would play against Lazio. Galatasaray obviously needs more improvement to be made until February but it can achieve that with the help of Mustafa Denizli. Galatasaray to some extend might even end up in condition where it might start focus to Europa League due of conditions at Turkish league, but time will show if that will happen. It is possible to Galatasaray to get through but it needs to improve a lot as game it provided against Astana and Besiktas surely wont be enough.
