What happened in Turkish football today? 18/08/2022

Fenerbahce got an important advantage over Austria Wien.

Fenerbahce has got an important scoreline as it has won with 2:0 scoreline during Europa League play-off round 1st leg game with providing effective performance and even through it didnt create much opportunities, it has prevented Austria Wien to be effective during game.

It has become clear as game has become that Fenerbahce is being much more quality side compare to Austria Wien as it looked to be more organised and has managed to control game in good manner without letting Austria Wien to get at the game. Without doubt an early goal from Fenerbahce which did come from Joshua King who is being on rise in recent weeks has scored an important goal which has calmed to side for rest of the week while red card of the opponent during 2nd half made it even simpler. Another point of the game has been first game of the Alioski who did provide some good performance and provided an important role in the midfielding performance. Fenerbahce did gain high confidence and motivation with this result both in Europe and for upcoming domestic games.

Austria Wien did try to provide some positive game and control ball but without doubt huge gap of quality between two sides did play key role in such performance among conceding an early goal. Austria Wien chances for group stage looks to be very low right now.

Fenerbahce hence did get an important advantage in this fixture and would be looking forward for 2nd leg.

Basaksehirspor keeps its chance alive despite of conceding in end of the game.

Basaksehirspor which didnt provide very poor performance and effort against Royal Antwerp, did lose slight advantage on this tie as it did concede from Almeida from cross and ended game with 1:1 scoreline.

With Basaksehirspor did look to be having some difficult time against Antwerp, it needs to be mentioned that it did start game in good manner and even through it could provided much more faster tempo during 1st half, still it did look to be organised and being highly confident which did come from recent results of the side. What was most important from perspective from Basaksehirspor that it has provided performance which it could qualify as its own style. Looking to the factor that in all fairness, level of both sides is being similar to each other, Basaksehirspor could be happy with this outcome but it needs to be aware that due of 2nd leg being played in Belgium it would need to provide bit more better performance if it wants to get to the group stage.

Antwerp did look to be on similar strength but good news that its not much better team as Basaksehirspor which does keep chances during 2nd leg open for both sides. Stating that, goal which did come from Almeida has been lucky goal and this would be important factor in this tie.

Basaksehirspor did concede unlucky goal in the end but it should be aware that its chances for group stage are still being pretty alive.

Sivasspor continues its poor run losing this time to Malmo

Sivasspor continues showing unsuccessful performance during this season as it had poor start of the Europa League play-off round 1st leg game against Malmo where it lost with 3:1 scoreline.

Sivasspor did have poor start of the season domestically with losing to Trabzonspor at Super Cup and continuing to do so at Super League in duration of first 2 weeks. Therefore, it was unclear how it would be performing against Malmo. And unfortunately for Sivasspor it did have pretty poor start to the game and couldnt provide enough pressure. To some extend an early goal from Malmo also affected to the game and even through Janes has managed to show fast reaction with equalising score at 30th minute, it did concede again after 7th minutes and did lose tempo for rest of the game letting Malmo to control game. Therefore, Sivasspor did have ineffective start to this tie and has put its chances for group stage into difficulty.

Malmo did have an advantage due of its domestic league being played and hence being at form and also did have better results recent weeks and this factor has been played into hands for both sides.

Sivasspor continues showing poor games with adding list of losses to 3:1 loss to Malmo and it needs to improve within week if it wants to get to group stage.
