What happened in Turkish football today? 03/11/2021

Besiktas didnt get any control of game against Sporting Lisbon.

Besiktas did lose its opportunity to get into Champions League knockout stages as point difference with Sporting Lisbon and Ajax has been raised to 6 points as it lost this time to Sporting Lisbon with 4:0 scoreline providing very ineffective performance.

It needs to be mentioned that Sporting Lisbon starting from game until last whistle been side which has controlled game game as it wanted with raising tempo, finding goals and in some letting Besiktas to get into positions as it wanted to. Besiktas, especially in start of the game, didnt provide any response to such organised and demanding game from Portuguese opponent and even in some moments did show some signs of panic and as Sporting did find goals, Besiktas start losing its belief. One of the issues which needs to be mentioned without doubt is that Besiktas after winning title and what looked like successful transfer window in summer, did belief that it could be getting some good results. However, as European tournaments tend to bring back on ground Turkish clubs with idenfying issues and existant gaps from Turkish clubs and Europe. Besiktas did have lots of injured players in this games and generally but this not being excuse for such dissapoing performance.

As been noted, Sporting Lisbon did play as it wanted with getting tempo of the game as it wished and with finding goals on right time did get crucial win for them and would now get into fight for 2nd spot with Ajax.

Besiktas did end its Champions League prematurely and would now focus into formality games possibly deciding sides which would get to knockout stage from group.

Galatasaray should focus into top position in its group.

Galatasaray would be coming out to 4th week game against Lokomotiv Moscow in Istanbul as win for them would hence make their aim to end group stage at the top and pass next play-off round more closer.

Even through in the league Galatasaray doesnt seem to be showing high level performance, starting from Europa League group stages it is providing much better game and would be meeting with last spot Lokomotiv Moscow which with new coach is also showing good performance in domestic league. Taking account that Lokomotiv still have some opportunities for getting out from group it would be expected that side would be giving its best Hence, Galatasaray does come as favourite to the game and it needs to show this with getting strong confident balance both in atttack and defence which it managed to do until now in the tournament and needs to do so.

Win against Lokomotiv Moscow could make their aim to end group in the top much more closer and it is capable to get this result so should focus on this.

Fenerbahce would need to win Antwerp.

Fenerbahce does come up to the Antwerp game at the Europa League with showing poor performance in recent weeks and would need to get at least draw to see European winter and win if it wants to keep Europa League chance arrive.

It needs to be noted that with how Fenerbahce performs in recent weeks and also its performance during previous game against Antwerp, opponents would be feeling quite understandable to get opportunity to win its opponents and get 3rd spot for Conference League at least, and hence would be expected to provided brave attacking game to which Fenerbahce should be ready for. Meanwhile, game itself would be played without supporters due of Covid19 regulations in Belgium, which is unclear if would provide home advantage to Belgium side which could provide some hope for Fenerbahce even through support from supporters or general fans atmosphere could not provide needed push forward which it needs right now.

Fenerbahce cant afford to lose as it could possibly bring end of European journey so it should play accordingly.
