What happened in Turkish football today? 13/07/2021

PCR test created diplomatic issue between Galatasaray and Greece.

Galatasaray had an issue to be entering to Greece for pre-season friendly game to be scheduled played on 13th July against Olympiakos as Turkish club showed reluctance with doing 2nd rapid test stating that Greek authorities treatment to them was unfair and been discriminating.

When looking at requirements which were set by Greek authoriites its been stated that there must be filled form and going through PCR not later then 72 hours, rule which been used in high number of countries due of Covid19 cases. Galatasaray did go through this procedure without any issue as PCR test also been recognised by both nations. According to same regulation, Greek authorities has right to ask 2nd rapid test when arriving, again rule which been taken place in most countries. However, even through some part of side did go through PCR test which been requested by Greek, later it did wanted for everyone to go through PCR test which wasnt accepted by Galatasaray. If side been treated harshly authorities, Galatasaray did do right thing but requirement is there which does rise question who side is being right.

Turkish media does tend to provide view that Greek authorities does provide difficulties on purpose to Turkish nationals or communities, and even through there are reported cases it is hard to know if this incident is purely to this.

Besiktas has cancelled Spanish training camp due of Covid19.

It became clear that due of rising cases around Europe of Covid19 which incudes Spain, Besiktas did cancel its pre-season training camp in Spain.

Due of uncertainty of Covid19 situation among Delta and Delta+  variants start spreading in many countries, most of the clubs in Turkey did decide to have they training camps in Turkey without risking with Besiktas being among few which was mainly due of getting opportunity to play against European clubs during pre-season for preparation of Champions League. However, uncertainty and some rise of cases in Europe right now has led them to cancel this plans without being in risk of its players. It is likely that with having camp in Turkey Besiktas would play with fellow Turkish clubs and some European clubs training in Turkey right now.

Even through condition with Covid19 doesnt seem to be as more panicking as was last year, it still continues to affect into some aspect of daily life including football community.

Gokhan Gonul has left Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce player Gokhan Gonul has ended contract with his club after 1 season as he didnt attend to any of training session of the side during this pre-season.

With fact that he didnt attend to training session, it was highly expected for him to be ending contract and in fact there is expectation that he could be ending his footballing career this summer even through there is possibility he would be transferred to other club for short period of time. Even through coming from Besiktas only been for 1 year, he did play at club for lots of years experiencing good successes and downs in the club becoming one of the main players in the team at recent years and showing strong connection to this club.

Gokhan Gonul did leave Fenerbahce but now question is what he would be doing when new season starts.
