What happened in Turkish football today? 08/04/2021

Fenerbahce lost 2 points which could cost them title.

Fenerbahce has lost crucial 2 points in its title race as it ended Super League 33rd week game with 1:1 scoreline without providing too much needed opportunities against side which did lose for 12 weeks for side which aims for title.

Even through Fenerbahce head coach quite naturally didnt have enough time to provide some drastic changes with such scheduling of the league, it needs to be noted that Fenerbahce performace between Emre Belozoglu and Erol Bulut is almost same with how both clubs are performing right now. Even through Fenerbahce been side which did possess ball and been on attacking half, it did have difficulty with creating opportunities and going through intense defence. With taking account that Yeni Malatyaspor didnt win for 12 weeks and being more into defence mood psychologically, not providing too much pressure is surely not expectable on their view. With 8 games left for them and having 5 point difference with Besiktas which potentially could raise to 8 points it does look like it would need to focus for 2nd spot right now with being only 2 points above Galatasaray with having extra game.

Yeni Malatyaspor did provide performance which been expected for them with showing defensive game looking for crucial point for them with using counter-attack very effective but their do need wins in upcoming weeks also urgently.

Fenerbahce hence continues to be showing poor performance even with Emre Belozoglu and would need to find ways to get wins for last 8 games.

Besiktas shown great reaction against Alanyaspor

Besiktas has shown very strong reaction what was expected to be tough game for them as their managed to win Alanyaspor with 3 points despite of not showing its best game but despite of that did look to be highly confident.

It needs to be noted that return of Racchid Ghezzal and Cenk Tosun after being absent on previous games did have positive impact with side looking to be very effective on its attacking game with creating very good opportunities which despite of 3:0 scoreline, also had 3 posts in duration of 1st half. Meanwhile, some specific praise should be given to Cenk Tosun who came on field after just recovering from Covid19 and despite of lack of training session did provide great game especially during 1st half. It needs to be noted that Besiktas however made some mistakes before 2:0 which led for opponent to have high number of opportunities but were not scored in surprising manner. Alanyaspor seems to be demotivated which is clearly seen and hence its issue of not being very effective does come back from previous game and not only in this game.

With showing such win, Besiktas got also impressive advantage and is being 7 wins until out of 9 games for title.

Azerbaijan will allow supporters for its Euro2020 game with 50% capacity.

Azerbaijan has announced that 50% of capacity of stadium of supporters would be allowed to Olympic Stadium in Baku for Euro2020 which means group stage against Wales and Switzealand.

This announcement has come following Italian FA earlier this week stating that supporters would be allowed for their game in Rome where tournament would begin on 11th June with Italy and Turkey. Therefore, if there would not be any last minute changes Turkey will be playing all its group stage game with supporters. This would be especially good news for games at Baku where local supporters would be expecting to support them due of cultural strong connection between both sides. It needs to be reminded that UEFA does have high expectation for games to be filled with supporters but did lift 30% limit set earlier. Right now with 2 months left, it would be hoping that virus condition will not be getting any worser but with looking how it behaved last year, it is hopefull for not providing too much issue during Euro2020.

This would be good news for Turkey for those both sides to allow supporters and could affect games on positive note for sure.
