What happened in Turkish football today? 12/01/2021

Galatasaray gets to knockout stages through penalties.

Galatasaray gets to quarter-final of the Turkish Cup after beating  Yeni Malatyaspor with 7:6 penalties with 90 minutes club did end with 0:0 scoreline while 120 minutes did end with 1:1 scoreline, which means that it did have pretty difficult game prior to derby game against Besiktas.

It need to be noted that both sides did provide pretty limited performance of especially from Galatasaray which didnt provide too much opportunities during whole game with showing pretty low tempo of game which been totally different during previous game in the Super League against Genclerbirligi. It needs to be noted that Galatasaray head coach Fatih Terim did come out with field with relatively strong squad with high number of regulars and therefore it was expected from them to show such better game but it needs to be noted that Besiktas game has been on their mind which affected to such performance, but on other side it could been focussed to show more attacking game for not providing to 120 minutes. We need to state that Luyindama did score on last minute of the game which did bring into penalties hence saving from regulation both goalkeeper Fatih Ozturk who did concede from mistake and also brought penalties, where Ozturk did get 2 saves from penalties including one which did bring quarter-final.

With Yeni Malatyaspor been relegated it did provide very good game always been on the game fighting until end of the game including penalties bringing in total of 8 penalties from both sides and despite being  relegated this performance could provide confidence for upcoming games at league.

Galatasaray did get to quarter-final of Turkish Cup but it didnt provide very high tempo with high amount of opportunities but with this result it continues and gains confidence.

Fenerbahce continues getting great results this time winning  Erzurumspor

Fenerbahce did get pretty confident win against Erzurumspor as it did find 3 goals in end of 1st and start of 2nd halves but it needs to be mentioned that it didnt have easy time prior to finding 1st goal.

As been noted on previous post entries, Erzurumspor is being one of the difficult away games especially during winter months due of extreme cold weather which does affect football field as it did during this game. Hence, without doubt Fenerbahce did struggle against this factors more than it did against Erzurumspor as opponent looked to be more confident to play in such condition which did lead them to have much more dangerous opportunities but it didnt convert them as game been developing with Fenerbahce ending game in such short period with getting into same points with Besiktas in the top of the leagues. Without doubt winning for 4 weeks back-to-back would provide high motivation and could strongly focus into top position in the end of the 1st half of this season.

Fenerbahce did get good period on its hand which certainly would provide right confidence and motivation for upcoming games without doubt.

Rizespor would aim for payback from last week against Besiktas

Besiktas is going to be resuming its Turkish Cup journey with meeting Rizespor at last 16 as only last week side has beaten them with 6:0 scoreline with dominating whole game but this time it would be different tournament.

Even through it would be difficult for Rizespor, their would be coming to game with focus to show payback from 6:0 loss and to some extend it would be having opportunity as main for Besiktas would be Galatasaray derby game during this weekend and in league generally which is likely would mean Rizespor would be taking this game much seriously. It would not be expected that Rizespor would be able to aim for getting similar scoreline but would be giving their best. Besiktas would be able to control game according how seriously their would take game both mentally and tactically with team likely to play with substitutes and maybe reserves for this game.

Besiktas are coming as favourites but Rizespor do have chance to get surprise on this tie.
