What happened in Turkish football today? 24/01/2020

Trabzonspor performance against Denizlispor provided some worrying signs.

Trabzonspor has qualified to Turkish Cup quarter-final stage where it would be meeting with Erzurumspor, but it did so through difficult way as after winning 1st leg with 2:0 scoreline, it did lose 2nd leg with same scoreline  but managed to get 4:2 scoreline from penalties.

This game in same time has been 1st game for Huseyin Cimsir in away game and even through his performance has been praised prior to this game, same could not be stated for this Denizlispor game. In same as it would not be strong reference to look into previous 2 games, it would be unfair to take this away game as reference point for all away games for Trazonspor but one thing is certain especially this season away games are being tough. Trabzonspor either from 1st leg game result or something else didnt provide strong concentration towards game in beginning which led them to concede goals on early moments. Good news for Trabzonspor without doubt has been for them to at least balance game and bring game into penalties where it has used calmness especially of Erce Kardesler and got into quarter-final of competition.

Trabzonspor didnt provide good start of the game and its new coach Huseyin Cimsir needs to take some notes from such performance as we enter to important games this season.

Galatasaray is showing some improvement right now.

It needs to be noted that Galatasaray is still not providing performance which has been expected from them during this season but it does show direction towards right way as it has shown 2:1 win against Rizespor.

Galatasaray to some extend didnt show perfect domination but as game been got into 1:1 scoreline, side did show some attitude looking for 2nd goal which it did get from help of Mario Lemina and does regain its fighting spirit with current players, including new comers, does realise aims of this team for rest of the season, factor which seemed to be lacking during 1st half games. Now, Galatasaray did been drawn to Alanyaspor during quarter-final stage in the tournament which certainly would provide some serious issues to team as their are being in good form for sure and are at title race for now. Galatasaray does need to be staying focussed for upcoming games as it did during this game, as its far-fetched aim for double could not be out of reach from one less during this season for sure, and some difficult tasks would be coming out for them.

Galatasaray are improving as side both physically and mentally but it needs to carry on like that in upcoming weeks also for sure.

Both Basaksehirspor and Fenerbahce cant afford to lose.

Without doubt, most important game during Super League 19th week would be between Fenerbahce and Basaksehirspor, as former side would be starting back-to-back games with outcome having direct role of their title contention.

Fenerbahce it needs to be noted did start 2020 in good note, and even through its performance could be questioned it is getting results and does show character which it would be needed against Basaksehirspor. With excluding Turkish Cup surprising relegation from Kirklarispor, it didnt lose game since 3rd week of Super League and only side to be at Europa League and has opportunity to raise point difference against Fenerbahce to 4 points, hence it would be taking this game seriously. With so much in risks, this game to some extend is being more than for 6 points as loser might have strong impact to its title aim both mentally and in standings. There is possibility as been seen lately in such game for both sides to play to not lose game, but with draw not also being good outcome for both sides could lead them also providing highly attacking game.

Game itself might not specifically high level performance but it would be with high tension with so much in stake for sure.
