What happened in Turkish football today? 16/01/2020
Huseyin Cimsir had perfect start in his 1st game at Trabzonspor
Trabzonspor has got an important win during Turkish Cup last 16 1st leg game against Denizlispor with providing very high level focussed game and hence has become only side among top 4 clubs to get win in this stage.
It was important for new head coach Huseyin Cimsir to start his reign in the club after surprising resignation of Unal Karaman and did gain gain trust for himself at least for time being and would be lookng forward for league and for 2nd leg of Turkish Cup. It needs to be noted that due of injuries high amount of the players were not present in the team due of high amount of injuries so it was also crucial for side to get such good result against team which also has some high aims in this competition. What is more important that Trabzonspor has been highly criticised during 1st half of the season with conceding goals almost in every goal so it was important for them to end game with clean sheet which as been noted would be very important for its league title aims without doubt. Therefore, Trabzonspor has good reasons to look for rest of the season both in league and cup.
Denizlispor on their part didnt provide great performance not providing too much resistance to Trabzonspor and does have difficult task with 2nd leg taking place next week with aim to turn around this tie.
Trabzonspor got for sure very important outcome in this tie which would provide trust to coach Huseyin Cimsir after his 1st game in club.
Besiktas did provide poor performance against Erzurumspor in Turkish Cup.
Besiktas has failed to provide very strong performance against Erzurumspor during Turkish Cup last 16 1st leg game as it didnt has lost to them with 3:2 scoreline during -9 degrees weather, with players didnt look to be 100% ready for restart of the season.
Besiktas did come out to the game with ideal squad but did fail to provide very confident performance from start to end and apart of some moments of the game didnt show full control of the game while Erzurumspor has looked to be more focussed towards this game with looking and creating chances. Without doubt Erzurumspor did use this weather condition, which it used to, into its own advantage while Besiktas did struggle. But it would be unfair to throw all this poor performance of team to weather as it didnt manage to show its quality which it has as side into the field and more or less did look to be not entirely ready for restart of the league including against Sivasspor which would be very crucial game for rest of the season.
Therefore, it would be crucial to be improving with its performance for league game as it would be having very difficult game and game it shown yesterday will not be enough for them for sure.
Galatasaray showed good game but it wasnt enough for win.
Despite of showing good performance against Rizespor and providing some positive attitude,
Galatasaray still has failed to get outcome which it was seeking for during Turkish Cup 1st leg game.
It needs to be admitted that Galatasaray did show right attitude and concentration to Rizespor game with providing controllable forward-seeking performance and it was especially present to see Emre Akbaba who has returned to game after 8 months due of injury to show high level performance from start to end and finding very good goal in the end of the game. Meanwhile, game didnt end up being with VAR controversy due of penalty moment of Galatasaray at 86th minute, where whole team argued for penalty to be case but referee didnt go to VAR but did in some minutes afterwards when Emre Mor goal has been disallowed. This decision has been done wrong in all fairness and could to some extend start once again disagreements between club and TFF.
Still, despite of outcome and referee decision Galatasaray still has good chances to get to knockout stages due of away goal prior to 2nd leg at home.
