What happened in Turkish football today? 14/02/2019

Galatasaray didnt manage to provide strong opposition to Benfica.

Galatasaray has lost its advantage during Europa League 2nd round 1st leg game against Benfica as it has lost at home ground with 2:1 scoreline and has put their chances to the last 16 into hard position.

With taking account of recent performances of both clubs and also good form of Benfica with Bruno Lage, it needs to be stated that Galatasaray chances at this draw has been seen not very high. But it did start game in pretty organised manner as it has aimed to prevent Benfica to provide an attacking game but penalty kick has raised lots of tension as game progressed, as Galatasaray has claimed that Marcao didnt play with his hand. As Benfica has scored goal, Galatasaray took some time to get back into the game and has found a good call thanks to the from Luyindama who has moved into forward and has provided great header from cross of Yuto Nagatomo. With this goal Galatasaray has got an opportunity to get leadership and go to Portugal with an advantage scoreline but Seferovic on 64th minute, 10 minutes after Luyindama goal, has provided once again advantage to Benfica. With Galatasaray not being able to get back into game it has now difficult task during 2nd leg game as it needs to turn around game at very difficult away game as Benfica fans does provide strong support to their fans at Stadio de Luz.

Benfica as it is know was coming to the game with strong form and their have used this advantage into their hand as game has progressed with showing top level performance and did show that it is better side. Now it has got good advantage at this tie and would be coming to the 2nd leg with high mood and confidence for sure.

Galatasaray did aim to prevent Benfica to provide top level performance but sadly it did look not in similar level as their opponent and now have difficult task at 2nd leg.

Burak Yilmaz and Shinji Kagawa will aim to provide top level performance against Yeni Malatyaspor

Turkish Super League 22nd week is going to start with an important game between Yeni Malatyaspor and Besiktas as it has direct impact into European aims for both sides while Besiktas is aiming for at least Champions League qualifiers while Yeni Malatyaspor aims to stay at the Europa League spot.

It needs to be noted that Besiktas who in all circumstances would be coming to this game as strong favourite, in addition has provided a reasonable good performance in recent weeks at the Super League and would aim to carry on with this performance. From recent weeks performance, it could be stated that both Besiktas player Burak Yilmaz and Shinji Kagawa has been adapted to the side and would become key players of such crucial game for them and are expecting to carry on showing main role with both of them looking for high amount of the chances. With Yeni Malatyaspor showing some decline of performance with 1st half it would be still coming out to the game with high motivation and confidence and certainly would try to provide surprising result which could provide additional confidence for upcoming games. It would be hard game for Besiktas but if their play like last two weeks their can win game without much issue.

As been noted, main focus would be given to Besiktas players Burak Yilmaz and Shinji Kagawa and without doubt both of them would be aiming not to dissapoint with their performance against Yeni Malatyaspor.

Akhisarspor has sacked its head coach Cihat Arslan.

With this week coming to be very active with Central Referee Committee CEO Yusuf Namoglu and Turkish National Team head coach Mircea Lucescu ends of posts, it was easy not to realise that Akhisarspor has terminated contract with its head coach Cihat Arslan.

Akhisarspor are currently located at last place at the standings with 17 points and 3 points behind save zone so this termination without doubt has been related to of poor performance of Cihat Arslan which meanwhile has been a surprise as he was expected to improve team when being appointed recently. Stating that it needs to be stated that the team is not providing at similar performance as it did last season even through it still at comfortable situation to get to the Turkish Cup semi-final after winning 1st leg at Turkish Cup with 3:1 scoreline against Antalyaspor. But when coming to the league, it is providing very poor performance in which case 1st blame as always would be given to the head coach of the side. Right now team would be looking for had coach and would be coming to crucial Galatasaray game with caretaker coach and team would certainly feel under big pressure for such game.

As been noted, Cihat Arslan didnt manage to provide good performance to keep them above relegation zone and as crucial weeks are coming up club decided to terminate contract with him and look for coach which could improve team performance.
