Trabzonspor are showing strong protest towards referee Umut Ozturk.
Following Turkish Super League 21st week game loss to Galatasaray with 3:1 scoreline, Trabzonspor has shown strong protest regarding of performance of game referee Umut Ozturk, with Trabzonspor CEO Ahmet Agaoglu stating that an effort from young players has been stolen.
It does need to be stated that refereeing during such an important game has been done in pretty poor performance which includes some decisions such as not given penalty for Trabzonspor, red card for Mbiaye Diagne and also swearing used by Yuto Nagatomo, even through same action has been punished by red card to Fenerbahce player Roberto Soldado during game against Kayserispor. It was clear that either referee of game has not been in his best form or, sadly this proves by previous games at the league, it has been done on purpose by referees. However, it needs to be stated that it will not be rightfully to state that Trabzonspor has lost game because of referee, as even through he did make huge mistakes, Trabzonspor didnt provide similar level of performance compare to their opponents even if referee would have been provided great performance. Still, this question of referees does been taken pretty active in recent weeks and it does look VAR wasnt able to provide a solution, even through its not technological issue but human factor once again.
Trabzonspor is right to provide such protest towards referee but it needs to be aware that it didnt provide great performance on the day and needs to focus on how to improve its performance for last section of the season.
Galatasaray has showed great performance against Trabzonspor.
As been stated above, it needs to be admitted that Galatasaray did show better performance compare to Trabzonspor and even through it could be argued that it didnt show perfect for whole game, it had much better plan during game for sure.
It needs to be noted that one of the leading aspects of such as good performanace has been possibly best game of Younes Belhanda during this season as he has found 2 goals which has brought win to the team and also has been pretty active during whole game and without doubt if he carries on similar performance during this season, he would push team ahead with this performance. This win also has reduced point difference against Basaksehirspor to 6 points and has send strong message for its title race with providing such good performance against one of its biggest historical rivals at the league. Right now Galatasaray main priority would be given to the Europa League 2nd round 1st leg game against Benfica which would take place at Valentine's Day, and even through this performance does show some good signs it might not be enough against in well-form Benfica and it needs to improve its performance.
Galatasaray does provide lots of improvement and if this would carry on it can provide a good ending of the season at all competitions it is still taking place and have high aims.
Fenerbahce needs to forget league and focus to Zenit game for now.
Fenerbahce would restart its Europa League campaign after long-term break with playing against Zenit at 2nd round 1st leg game, where it would need to provide different motivation and focus and importantly forget its poor performance at the Super League.
As it is known, for some clubs, poor performance at the league has provides an additional motivation and concentration for European games and leeds at providing great performance in Europe compare to league. It is important from Fenerbahce stance to get that level for game and be aware that it can beat Zenit and provide in overall good performance at the competition. It needs to be stated that even through Zenit did start season in high note both domestically and Europe it did have some drop of performances. Sadly, mid-season training camps, which still continues for Russian clubs until start of March, cant be used as strong reference point but it needs to be stated that it cant be said that Zenit had great period in 2019 but once again main focus of mid-season training camp is to see mistakes. Its hard to call favourite for the game but playing at home for 1st leg is still strong advantage and it need to focus to win game in good score without conceding.
Fenerbahce would open, or more specifically re-open its Europa League chapter of this season which has been with full of dissapointments and aim to provide good performance at this tournament.
