What happened in Turkish football today? 03/10/2018

Galatasaray has lost to Porto despite of showing better performance.

Galatasaray has lost Champions League Group D 2nd week game with 1:0 scoreline against Porto despite of showing a good performance and has conceded goal from simple mistake during corner kick at 49th minute.

It needs to be stated that it was obvious as game has started and progressed that Galatasaray has provided great preparation for the game both mentally and tactically as despite of slow tempo of the game, it was able to be more active at the field. In fact, Galatasaray has been seen much more organised and willing to find chances but having as goalkeeper at opposition as Ilker Casillas it was difficult to find goals without providing extra effort. Still Galatasaray has created high chances with controlling ball and tempo and it did look like at worst it would end such crucial away game at least with 0:0 draw but with simple mistake which has happened due of loss concentration of the one-on-one defence. It needs to be stated that Galatasaray also has managed to get rid of away game phobia in performance wise even through it has lost game at the end of the day. This loss would still help to get confidence for upcoming games.

It needs to be stated that from Porto perspective it has shown pretty poor performance which was expected from them and taking account that Galatasaray has shown good game at away game, it was lucky to get goal from Marega on 49th minute.

Galatasaray did show great performance and could get far from at this group with such performance especially remembering that it has played most difficult away game during this group stage.

Fenerbahce needs to win Spartak Trnava to get some much needed motivation and confidence.

Following loss towards Dinamo Zagreb during Europa League 1st week game with 4:1 scoreline and also very poor performance, Fenerbahce would come out to an important game against Slovakian side Spartak Trnava.

Fenerbahce head coach Phillip Cocu, sports director Damien Comolli has recieved high number of criticism with many people among fans and also sports media are calling for sacking of those two names. Therefore, and especially to Cocu, this game against Spartak Trnava is not also important in the sense of Europa League fate of the season, but also his personal future at the club. Even through Spartak Trnava is seen by many and also with coefficient looks to be weakest side at the group it needs to be remembered that it has won Anderlecht during 1st week game and hence could be very tough opponent. Fenerbahce needs foremost to improve their performance among to win game as it losing trust and support and urgently needs morale and confidence prior to league game against Basaksehirspor on 7th October. The focus of the players needs to change entirely and their should focus into performing its best performance it can to regain trust.

Possible loss of points against Spartak Trnava among losing its chances to get to knockout stages of Europa League would also raise tension between team and fans.

Besiktas would need to show similar performance as it did against Kayserispor.

Besiktas would be coming out to the Europa League 2nd week game against Malmo as strong favourite as it would be aiming to get 2 out of 2 with confidence performance against Norwegian side.

Besiktas quite naturally with their good performance and also status is expected to not have issue with Malmo, even through its hard to state that it has shown pretty calm games during this season in generally. Besiktas would be coming out to the game with high motivation for Malmo game following very smart and confident game against Kayserispor and would be aiming to show similar performance against Malmo. Stating that Malmo would aim to show their best performance and would be seeking to find weak points of the Besiktas and aim to create chances seeing a point at this game as strong advantage and hence Besiktas cant relax to this game. Besiktas has shown great midfielding position especially with Ljajic recent performance and as creator of chances he would play an important role at game.

Besiktas does come out as favourite and would need to show great passing game with patience as previous game shown that its best style of game in this field.
