What happened in Turkish football today? 19.08.2016
Dick Advocaat makes perfect start to his reign at Fenerbahce.
Fenerbahce head coach Dick Advocaat has made a perfect start at his coaching career at the team as he has won with comfortable scoreline of 3:0 at the Europa League 1st leg game against Grasshoppers. Even more importantly team has provided much more attacking football compare to previous head coach Vitor Pereira.
It does need to state that Grasshoppers is much weaker team than Fenerbahce, as been stated by Swiss team coach Pierluggi Tami himself after the game that Fenerbahce winning game should not be treated as surprise. But it is impressive for players, even through not yet totally perfectly, providing football which is Dick Advocaat has been seeking for which is total football focussing into attacking style. If the team had been used to this tactics and Dick Advocaat joining the team earlier it will be no surprise if the score of game would be more impressive. Previous head coach Vitor Pereira even through did focus into attacking game in his statements, he didnt give much focus into attacks and mainly focussed into defence. Even through defence is important, this team could done many things in attacking football last season and now Dick Advocaat is capable of fulfilling this potential of this squad.
Dick Advocaat would now play against Basaksehirspor on 21st August at the Super League opening week which could provide better idea to him and everyone at the condition the team is at currently as it is opponent who plays great game against big 4 teams.
Osmanlispor is showing great confidence at the Europa League.
Osmanlispor is even through being weakest team at the Europa League among Turkish sides and has started campaign as back as on 2nd qualifying round, it ended providing best results at the Europe without losing 5 games so far at the qualifying stage.
Of course, Osmanlispor has still lots to do for the 2nd leg but it would use its home advantage against Danish side Midtylland at the Europa League play-off stage after winning 1st leg with 1:0 scoreline. Again its not much about how well team performed as it was hard for them, but more importantly about confidence team has shown which is sometimes crucial in such games. It didnt allow Midtyland to control game yesterday and has provided great resistance showing that it is aimed at Europa League group stage. Osmanlispor head coach Mustafa Resit Akcay did state that he is main focus is at the Super League but yesterday's performance does show he does aim to get great and memorable results at the Europa League as their high hope for getting to group stage of tournament.
Whatever happens at the 2nd leg and despite this being at the qualifying stage, this has been great experience for players and it would have possible effect for the Super League season for Osmanlispor.
Basaksehirspor needs to stay focussed for 2nd leg against Shakhtar Donetsk.
Basaksehirspor among all of the Turkish side at the Europa League as been mentioned several times has been unluckiest as it is playing against very strong and potential Shakhtar Donetsk who is in fact would be one of the favourites at the tournament if it enters to the Europa League group stage.
Basaksehirspor it needed to be said did provide great fight and as head coach Abdullah Avci has stated after game it mainly gained experience from that game and in fact still has some chances for 2nd leg at the Lviv next week due of penalty goal by Emre Belozoglu even through away goal of 2:1 scoreline is on side of the Shakhtar Donetsk. Basaksehirspor has been close to be entering to proper tournament but does look to have problems to do so but again it should believe and give it all for next week even through it could be difficult as it would play very hard game against Fenerbahce at the opening week of Super League on 21st August, taking account that Fenerbahce is very likely to provide an attacking football which could make Basaksehirspor to become tired as a team.
Only thing which can team do for next week return game against Shakhtar Donetsk is to believe that it still has chances for 2nd leg to get to Europa League, especially believe it psychologically.
