What happened in Turkish football today? 30.08.2016

Both Turkey and Russia will aim to win friendly and diplomatic game against each other

Turkish National Team will play its first game since dissapointing Euro 2016 campaign at the friendly game against Russian national team in Antalya which would be also be preparation for World Cup 2018 qualifiers. This game would also aim to show signs of political closerness which been done by Turkish parliament and Russian parliament after incident with the Russian jet.

As it is known, national team head coach Fatih Terim has gone into drastic changes at the squad by taking number of key players including team star Arda Turan which could be seen as his sign of punishment to those players as their will not be playing also against Croatia on 5th September as 1st World Cup qualfier game. This game also would be between teams which arguably has provided worst performances at past Euro 2016 game. To some extend, Russian National Team also is going through big changes as it aims to do drastic revision prior to World Cup which will take at their country in two-years time. This game would surely provide an image at where their stand for their aim in next 2 years. The game is likely to be taken at very friendly conditions as it also has political reasons.

Turkish National Team does need to get win to regain its trust from supporters which it did lose from Euro 2016 and also get into good mood prior to Croatian National Team game at the World Cup qualifier but it wont be easy as Russia also has good reasons for it to win.

Jeremain Lens joins Fenerbahce.

Fenerbahce has made an agreement for Sunderland player Jeremain Lens and who has arrived to Istanbul last night where he looks forward to be joining to the team. Surely, the fact that head coach is being Dick Advocaat is playing an important role here.

Taking account that both are being Dutch and also their have long-term good relationship with each other has played an important role for Lens to join. In addition, Jeremain Lens is surely a quality player and fact he joined the team could make team to solve its issues especially in the midfielder and attacking positions as he is being fast and creative player. Both him and Dick Advocaat being familiar with each other would likely solve issue of adoptation as he will not have big problems at adopting to the style of play which Advocaat would be awaiting for him. This transfer for sure could become most key transfer for Fenerbahce during this transfer window.

Jeremain Lens has been stated both in UK and here that he is happy and exicited to join the team and as been stated he has all chances to show this enthuasist with his performance at the team.

Galatasaray has loaned Nantes player Kolbeinn Sigthorsson.

With last days of the summer transfer window, the hard working of achievement transfer and loan agreement is taking place fast around Europe and Galatasaray has made an agreement to loan Nantes player Kolbeinn Sightorsson.

It was known that Galatasaray has been interested with Icelandic player for very long time and did finally made a deal with him as he had arrived this night to the Istanbul. He was among the key players at the Iceland National Team during Euro 2016 and did make his name beforehand around the Europe and could strength team's midfielder area after signing contract. What happened in Turkish football today? 29.08.2016

Fenerbahce need to improve set pieces defence and transfer midfielder.

Despite of very successful two games against Grasshoppers at the Europa League play-off round, Fenebahce new head coach didnt have a great start at the Super League with his team as he lost 5 points from first two weeks and it is visible that team has serious issues at the midfield.

Even through the way team has played against Kayserispor taking account that for more than one half it was played with 10-men the draw of the game could be seen as good result however that doesnt mean that team is in good condition. As head coach Dick Advocaat has said himself following the game that the team needs a quality and creative midfielder stating that he is happy with his players but their are playing similar football which reduces chances for them to be effective and variable at the area. Another issue which was observed that team does need to work at the set-pieces as it has conceded similar goals from set-pieces from Welliton which made it clear that team didnt work much for set-pieces as after game Ozan Tufan has stated himself. Hence, there are area which team need to work on at the national team break or it would have bigger issues as the league develops and also issues at the Europa League "death group".

So, as been stated Dick Advocaat has lots of work at the weekend to improve his team and be ready for upcoming games at the Super League and Europa League.

Besiktas loan Vincent Aboubakar for 1 year.

Porto player Vincent Aboubakar has signed 1-year transfer contract with Besiktas for salary of 3,300,000 euro while his loan fee has been agreed as 2,500,000 euro and with such a transfer it does look like Besiktas have solved its attacking issue which been existed since Mario Gomez left the team.

Vincent Aboubakar would be good help for the Besiktas taking account that he has good experience at the Champions League and hence could use his experience in effective manner for the team and taking account that he knows to be effective almost at every area in attacking he would be very suitable for attacking style game at the team. During start of the season it did look like that one of the main problems at the team is lack of strong attacker and hence this transfer should be able to fill those issues. With also national team break starting he would have chance to get adopted to coaching style of Senol Gunes and get some information of how Turkish Super League is being played. Aboubakar did come to Besiktas with high hopes and he does have high chance to fulfill them.

The time as always would show how successful he would be in Turkey but as been mentioned he has also the attributes to show top football.

Cheick Tiote has serious chronic injuries.

Galatasaray has changed its decision to transfer Newcastle United player Cheick Tiote as it became clear following medical checkup this morning that he has serious chronic injuries which has led him not to play in Premier League for 2 seasons.

It was known beforehand that Tiote transfer was not certain and he did have some injuries prior his arrival to Istanbul, but Galatasaray which was detirmined to make transfer decided to still go through check-up and then decide on this if he should be loaned or not. Unfortunately, results of the test has shown that his injury is very serious and he could be getting injured as the season progresses so it wasnt smart at all for team to loan him as he would hardly play any games. Only problem is with transfer window coming to closure it was waste of effort and time to trying to convince Tiote and Newcastle United for loan as it had ended without any result for both sides.

Right now Galatasaray has only two days to transfer or loan some players which is especially hard after this so it does look that if there will be any transfer for club it would be Lassana Diarra.

What happened in Turkish football today? 28.08.2016

Dick Advocaat did show he fully focussed into attacking football even when its not 11-on-11

Super League 2nd week game against Fenerbahce and Kayserispor has ended up being a big duel between two sides with both sides trying to win the game with their best effort. Fenerbahce of course has played for more than half of the game with one player less as Simon Kjaer has recieved red card on 38th minute and to some extend it was important for them to find 3 goals after that however it did concede same amount of goals.

The tempo of the game regardless of the scoreline was not as expected and the game did go on at the midfield area with Fenerbahce controlling game for most of the time. But head coach Dick Advocaat even with the 10-men at the field has shown that he was focussed into attacking football and was going towards the risk which with goal of 90+1' by Kayserispor player Umut Budak could have ended with bad outcomes has provided a very attacking football with 2nd half entering to the Fernandao and Robin van Persie. This to some extend can be seen as good thing which shows that Dick Advocaat would go into winning with taking all the risks which is needed. Saying that, it is clear that Advocaat is not used to the Super League style of football yet as he had arleady lost 5 point after 2 weeks and he needs to do some improvement to understand league and explain players what kind of football he awaits from them in upcoming days.

Kayserispor with being weaker side compare to Fenerbahce did use its chances to score especially with the help of Welliton game and has provided very effective game and did stay focus to the game trying to reduce mistakes. This draw could be seen for them as plus side even through for most time their played with 1 extra man.

This national team break would be big help for the Dick Advocaat as it would allow  for him to explain  players who will stay in Istanbul his style of game, get used more to the team and league. It is certain that he will need to do lots of homework in this two weeks.

Galatasaray has more desire to win games compare to last season.

Despite of not showing yet the best football which everyone would except from Galatasaray it did win all of the 3 official games during this season, including Super Cup game against Besiktas. Galatasaray has carried on its winning start with 3:1 win against Akhisar Belediyespor.

One of the main differences compare to previous season from Galatasaray that it start showing its winning spirit at the team and start going very actively forward at finding positions even through there would be expectations even more. It does need however to be noted that Akhisar Belediyespor which psychologically started playing defensive football after scoring a goal did provide some help to them. It needs to be stated that during last 2 goals, the work of midfielders was done in good job with great passes to both Yasin Oztekin and Bruma during the game. Another important note, is that it became visible that role of wingers are very important when Eren Derdiyok is on the field as he has great skills with headers.

Galatasaray would be going at the highest mood at the national team break among big "4" teams but it does need to work on its defence as it did make number of mistakes in first two games at the league.

Trabzonspor didnt show fast-paced football against Gaziantepspor.

Trabzonspor game against Gaziantepspor needs to be stated didnt go as was expected as it was very slow game with low number of dangerous moments. Even through such a game was going to be expected from Gaziantepspor, the way was Trabzonspor played against Kasimpasa in 1st week did provide some unexpected surprise.

Even through it did create number of dangerous attacks during the game their did appear according to situation of the game and not towards fast play of the game and Trabzonspor didnt provide face pace and attacks during the game. It would been fair for a game to get 0:0 scoreline but  Gaziantepspor player Orkan Cinar, player who just entered to the field with few minutes before scoring showing great drippling skills has scored a great goal. In fact, this goal does provide signs that he could become very important player for a team for this season. With goal coming also at the 88th minute, Trabzonspor couldnt respond does need to find reasons why it has lost game as it didnt do enough to get point and this perforamance will bring lots of problems during this season if it carries on like this.

Trabzonspor does have lots of new transfers and head coach Ersun Yanal has chance during this national team break to make the team work together and try to improve newly signed transfer players, who promise to bring a lot to the team this season.

Galatasaray makes 2 out of 2 in the Super League.

Despite of the poor start of the game by Galatasaray it has managed to get a win during 2nd week of the Super League against Akhisar Belediyespor with 3:1 scoreline. The following game did show that the team is completing much better as last year and did improve from last week drastically with its performance.

Galatasaray didnt start game as it did plan to as Akhisar Belediyespor goal at the 3rd minute has surely affected to their performance and their had trouble at overcoming through shock however in similar manner as in 1st week game against Karabukspor, Eren Derdiyok  header did bring the hope to Galatasaray. As the game progressed and went into 2nd half with better football and seemed to provide more positive image at the midfielding section which did successfully start also number of attacks which great passes. In fact, those two goals which brough win has been come from great assists from the midfielders. Galatasaray has improved a lot from last week and has shown great game against one of the difficult away games at the season.

Akhisar Belediyespor did show great game in some occassions and in fact has started great but their had this usual psychological effect after scoring goal to "big" 3 teams, which was to play more defensive football. This game surely has helped to Galatasaray as it allowed them to go more attacking and score 3 goals.

Galatasaray has got 2 out 2 so far and is among few teams to achieve that in this season so far and did start league in the way how potential league contenders should start. Their getting into national team break with high motivation.

Trabzonspor didnt seem to carry its performance which was shown last week.

Following a great start in this season against Kasimpasa last week, Trabzonspor didnt manage to carry on this good football against Gaziantespor as their had conceded at the 88th minute from Orkan Cinar. It was pretty far from its performance compare to last week.

The game needs to be said has been at the middle with both teams finding pretty few positions and it does in fact look like that game was going to the draw until last minutes has arrived at the game.
Trabzonspor which did show more active game last week in game against Gaziantepspor has only created two chances which could be qualified as dangerous and it did show that there is time for new players to get used to their new side. Still players like Hyun Jun Suk and Ogazi did show their will to get into leading positions at team and has shown that their can provide some good football in upcoming weeks. Trabzonspor head coach Ersun Yanal would surely learn some lessons from this game and try to solve some issues which needs to be solved during national team break.

It needs to be said that Gaziantepspor was not much stronger at their performance compare to Trabzonspor and game fair result should been 0:0, but Orkan Cinar goal at the 88th minute did remind everyone that football is 90 minutes.

Trabzonspor will now get into national team break during which time newly-signed players would have chance to get used more the team and possibly improve their performance for upcoming weeks.

Besiktas does need to make transfers right now.

It became visible that Besiktas squad has lost its strength compare to last season and doesnt look like strong team for Champions League with the Super League 2nd week game against Konyaspor game shown to us  where team has problem at organising quite well especially at the back.

It was visible during the game, especially at the 2nd half, that Besiktas defence is not very strong and it does need a transfer at the back including with other areas at the field as it has lack of players who can create chances. It needs to be remembered of course that team is currently is working with transfers and it does seem that we could see different side at the 3rd week of the Super League against Karabukspor but for now this team doesnt give much hope. Stating that it can consider itself to be lucky to some extend as away game as been shown from last season is difficult one and getting point could be great advantage for them in upcoming games. Another bad news is an injury of team player Oguzhan Ozyakup who is expected to be recovered from his injury in duration of 10 days.

Besiktas does show that its not as strong as last season from beginning of league and it needs to finalise those transfers which it has right now if it wants to make its team which would perform successfully at Champions League and defend its Super League title.

What happened in Turkish football today? 26.08.2016

Besiktas and Konyaspor has shown everyone why their had great season last year.

Besiktas game against Konyaspor during 2nd week of the Super League has shown why those two teams has been shown as the most successful and exciting teams of the last season as both teams has shown top football and it needs to be stated that Konyaspor did show signs that it wanted to win the game a bit more compare to its opponents.

Compare to opening week against Alanyaspor, Konyaspor has shown to the Besiktas that this season will not be as easy for them as it was previous season and the level of league has been risen higher. Besiktas did play some positive football but did have troubles at creating chances for most time and even before Necip Uysal has recieved red card, Konyaspor has shown some control of game. One of the factors of course of this could be factor that team was played at home ground in the Konya and it was better team compare to last season as it has prepared itself during summer transfer window for Europa League. Besiktas did show however that it does have issues at the front, and even through Talisca and Adriano were not able for today's game at current side its not in same level. However, Cenk Tosun and Olcan Sahan did show that their still can score an important goals this season.

Konyaspor meanwhile has shown pretty promising football with nice attacks and showing it can control game which could be initial for them also at the Europe. It does look their will be tough team to beat again this season and would fight for top 5 spots during this season.

Besiktas will be going into the national team break which could be a chance for a team's newly signed players to be more get used to their new side and quite possibly we might see different starting 11 at the 3rd week of the Super League against Karabukspor. This team is good enough to fight for title, but it doesnt need some improvement and adjustments at squad.

Fenerbahce has entered to Champions League style group but it can get to last 32.

Fenerbahce has been drawn into very tough group at the Europa League draw, with the group has been referred as in level of the Champions League by Fenerbahce vice-CEO Muharrem Usta and Manchester United head coach Jose Mourinho.

After qualifying to the group stage with easy 2 leg game against Grasshoppers, Fenerbahce has recieved most tough group at whole tournament with teams such as Manchester United and Feyenoord with Zorya being weakest link. Fenerbahce performance against Zorya in two games should end surely with 6 points if it wants to qualify and also aim for the winning games at its home ground. In fact, it can regain around 10 points with such a performance. Another story of the group meanwhile is surely getting into same group with Feyenoord which means it would be return for Dirk Kuyt to Istanbul and also return to Feyenoord (also to Manchester United) for Robin van Persie, clubs where players made very good marks. Fenerbahce can qualify from this group as it provides great game but it is certain that Dick Advocaat needs to improve team especially in attacking wise.

Fenerbahce as been mentioned above needs to aim to win its games at home with at least drawing with Manchester United. It can get to last 32 from this group but it would be tough task.

Osmanlispor has chance to fight for its 2nd spot at the group.

One of the most talked teams during this Europa League qualifying stage inside the Turkey has been respective success of the Osmanlispor which from its first try has managed to get into group stage and would certainly aim to get to last 32 where it get not hard group taking account that it got into via pot 4.

Osmanlispor would fight for the first two spots with Spanish side Villareal, Romanian side Steaua Bucharest and Swiss side Zurich. Obviously, among those Osmanlispor will fight with Steaua and Zurich teams as VIllareal quite naturally expected to take this group by ease unless there will be any surprises. Both those teams have an advantage over by Osmanlispor by being experienced at this stage however so far Osmanlispor has shown great responses during qualifiers and has proven that it will not be easy opponent. Steua Bucharest does show to be tough opponent with great name and history and in fact did show good results recently at the Europa League, however Manchester City did beat them with an aggregate of 6:0 during Champions League play-off round which does show that their not as tough as name suggests. It will be hard job but Mustafa Resit Akcay arleady showed Europe what he is capable of.

Crucial thing here for Osmanlispor also believe itself and enjoy this experience with trying their best to make their mark in Europe.

Fenerbahce beats Grasshoppers at 2nd leg of Europa League without any big issues.

Fenerbahce has managed to win Grasshoppers at the Europa League playoff round 2nd leg game with 2:0 scoreline without having any serious problems during the game, as it has won 1st leg with 3:0 scoreline. In fact, it did look like Grasshoppers didnt believe themselves that their will be able to turn game into their advantage.

This was in fact was obvious as soon as game started, as Grasshoppers has started with starting 11 consisting of  2nd squad possibly providing more focus into the Swiss league and from the beginning Fenerbahce has controlled game with passing and controlling ball. In fact, from 1st half performance it did look like both teams wanted to play for a draw as Fenerbahce was playing calm with knowing that it has 3 goal advantage while Grasshoppers couldnt start attacks and did show lack of motivation during the game. It was important in this game in sense of Fernandao and Miroslav Stoch to find goals and raise motivation both personally and also for  a team prior to Kayserispor game at the Super League 2nd week game on 28th August.

Grasshoppers didnt provide much of the performance at the game and even through it did find some positions at the 2nd half, none of them provide big threat to Volkan Demirel and to some extend it can be said Grasshoppers mindset didnt believe it could succeed to win strong Turkish side.

With comfortbale aggregate score of 5:0, club would look for draw for Europa League group stage on 26th August and sending message that it is ready for this tournament and provide great performance.

Osmanlispor makes history by beating Mitdylland with 2:0 scoreline.

Osmanslispor has marked the history as it succeeded to qualify to the Europa League group stage with two goals scored by Pinto which brought 2:0 win at the 2nd leg of play-off stage, and 3:0 at the aggregate. Osmanlispor head coach Mustafa Resit Akcay and his players has wrote history by such a historical win.

Osmanlispor has arleady played 6 games during Europa League campaign without even starting group stages without losing any games. The expectations of the team were low, but with high motivation, focus and the help of draw to some extend it has managed to get Europa League group stage. The main here is surely Pinto as he scored at the game which it needed to secure its ticket, and finding goal as early as in 20th minute of the game surely has affected motivation of Danish side as it needed to find 2 goals from that moment and with the focus how Osmanlispor played it was normal for Mitdylland to be worried and not be able to turn the scoreline into their advantage. Osmanlispor surely will be going to the draw with great motivation and experience and try to make its mark at the proper tournament.

Midtylland surely didnt expect that big resistance from Osmanlispor and in return didnt bring great game against team which did everything perfectly and showed to whole Europe that it has set an eye to the Europa League group stage.

Quality difference has led Basaksehirspor to end its Europa League journey.

After recieving good news both from Fenerbahce and Osmanlispor at the Europa League, Basaksehirspor didnt manage to carry on their success by losing to Ukrainian successful team Shakhar Donetsk win with 2:0 scoreline at the Europa League 2nd leg play-off round game, making aggregate scoreline as 4:1.

Shakhtar Donetsk in similar manner as in 1st leg has shown its superiority over Istanbul side and has controlled game by using its field and experience. Even through goals has come from Attamah own goal and penalty kick, Shakhtar Donetsk did dominate whole game and shown its superiority. As been mentioned earlier, Basaksehirspor main aim from this game was to gain experience and to some extend it has achieved that and with this sense it was lucky to some extend to play with experienced team like Shakhtar Donetsk. Europa League play-off round is tough stage to compete at taking account that you might not be as lucky as Osmanlispor who recieved relatively weaker team, but Basaksehirspor did try its best and should be proud of its success.

As been mentioned several times, Shakhtar Donetsk was coming as stronger team and it did show its superiority our two games and has got to group stage in fair manner.

Basaksehirspor would now focus into Super League where it would aim to get again to the European contingency for next season and it started very good by winning league contenders Fenerbahce.
