What happened in Turkish football today? 29.05.2016
Turkish National Team wins once again while scoring at last minute
Turkish National Team player Mehmet Topal last second goal against Montenegro at the pre-
Euro2016 friendly game has brought flashbacks of the Euro2008 tournament where Turkey has won games at last minutes/seconds of the game.
However, it needs to be noted that Turkish National Team as a whole has provided pretty poor performance against Montenegro and did not show its high tempo and focus to the game compare to previous games played by Turkey in duration of one year. Despite of being a friendly game it was important for Turkey to win the game to get into high morale prior to Euro2016 as their is only game left among friendlies, which would be against Slovenia. Montenegro despite of not being great danger to the Turkey has provided good lesson regarding how to play against a team which would focus into its defence even through the slow tempo has also been led by Turkey themselves during its performance. In this game, one of the best players was Emre Mor who has provided very fast and attacking football and has shown his hunger into wanting to get into attacks. With this performance it will be no surprise to anyone if Fatih Terim will select him to final squad for the France which should be announced in few days.
Turkey has provided poor performance but it regained morale which was by itself important for a team, and has got rid of negative effect which England loss could have to the team. Regardless of this game however it is importnat to provide great game against Slovenia next week as being last game prior to 1st game at Euro2016 against Croatia on 12th June.
Montenegro has in return provided great defensive pressure to Turkish National Team and could not also reach into tempo which their wanted due of vast number of injuries. However, it still managed to give lessons to Fatih Terim prior to tournament.
Galatasaray could keep Jan Olde Riekerink as team head coach.
Galatasaray as the club right now has a difficult decision if to continue with Jan Olde Rikerink as club head coach or start looking for new head coach. It is known that Galatasaray main priority was ex-Shakhtar Donetsk head coach Mircea Lucescu, but as he has signed contract with Zenit, plans has been changed.
It is known however that the players are happy with Rikerink being head coach of the team and for the team winning Turkish Cup this week has gained his status bit stronger. With remembering that Galatasaray is having negotiations with number of coaches it is still uncertain if it would agree with them and if their would, what would be conditions which their will ask for. Interestingly, the supporters does not seem to be against also extension of contract with Riekerink as their seem happy with him as he did improve team during short time of period. There is rumours that team would raise his monthly salary to 35,000 euro and keep him as head coach and in fact this could be right decision.
Jan Olde Riekerink has made great commununication and understanding with team players which is by itself is crucial for success but it also important if Riekerink would agree to become long-term coach as he had stated before that he came as youth trainer and he did take this job as their was no other option.
Fenerbahce aims to transfer Daniel Agger
Fenerbahce carries on its focus with transferring Brondby player Daniel Agger with also using big help from team player Simon Kjaer in the negotiations. His signing could be a big advantage for Fenerbahce.
Daniel Agger has a great character and right attitute among the skills which could be crucial for Fenerbahce if he will be joining them. Today Daniel Agger has announced that he has ended contract with Brondby which means that Fenerbahce has one less barrier at signing him. Quite naturally, club fellow Danishman Simon Kjaer is using a role of Fenerbahce and Istanbul ambassador stating to Agger all of the advantages of him to join Istanbul side and also advantages of Turkey as a whole. This is among transfers which could be concluded prior start of Euro 2016.
It is unclear if Agger himself would like to join Fenerbahce but there is number of other clubs interested in him, including Besiktas but Fenerbahce does show bigger interest according to rumours at least.
