What happened in Turkish football today? 29/05/2024

Fenerbahce ends with 99 points but still didnt win title.

Taking account that Fenerbahce did end season with 99 points which would make team champions at any other seasons with also big point difference from runners-up, it would be unfair to call this season to be unsuccessful. Only thing which prevented them that Galatasaray is being slightly better team in overall.

Single aim for Fenerbahce during last summer transfer window has been an aim to make this team to be able to be competitive against Galatasaray who did show strong performance on previous season and it needs to be mentioned that it did achieve that. This could be seen from  the factor that team did keep title race close for whole season and also didnt lose to Galatasaray. However, this season would be remembered with events during away Trabzonspor game and also incidents at both games in the Super Cup. Actions and decisions which has been done by Ali Koc, in some places rightfully and some place overreacting, did have into psychology of the players as not come out to Turkish Cup led for decline of the team. It could be mentioned that most crucial loss of points did happen against Sivasspor where it has drawn game.

It is hard to say that Fenerbahce did have bad season with 99 points but some statements and actions from Ali Koc regardless of intention did have negative impact to team.

Trabzonspor did waste lots of time in the start of the season with Bjelica.

Ending season at 3rd spot normally would not be seen as poor results but taking account that Trabzonspor has been 35 points behind league leaders and losing 13 games does show how it performed.

Appointment of Nenad Bjelica in the start of the season did provide some promises but he couldnt fulfill this expectation as team didnt perform well as he did lack of understanding of how to get maximum results with team and at the league. Hence, appointment of Abdullah Avci did raise some performance level as team did look to be more organised but still it didnt get into level which would been expected from them and still did show signs of improvement even through its squad wasnt too bad. Still, Trabzonspor did have some good ending of the season as it did finish at 3rd spot and got Europa League ticket and it does show some signs of optimism for next season.

Trabzonspor didnt provide very good performance but it is being team which could be competitive next season with rightfully transfers for sure.

Poor summer transfer window has negatively whole season to Besiktas

One of the most eventful clubs in the sense of news has been without doubt Besiktas in this season as it did have season with 2 different CEO's and 5 coaches with all of those not being able to get good results.

Without doubt, one of the main aspects of Besiktas which lead for team having such poor seasons is transfers which been made in summer transfer window. We would not call current squad of consisting bad players as some media and administrators at club do, but it needs to be admitted that its not in level to win title in this season especially looking at quality of top 2. Besiktas did change coaches back-to-back and possibly try to find solution with them but didnt manage to do so as all coaches couldnt get good results apart possibly from Serdar Topraktepe who rightfully did focus into playing youth players.

New administrative team of Hasan Arat did focus to get maximum outcome from current squad and did that to some extend with winning Turkish Cup but upcoming summer transfer window and season would show how successful this administration is.
