What happened in Turkish football today? 23/05/2024

Besiktas wins 2023-24 Turkish Cup after beating Trabzonspor with 3:2 scoreline.

Besiktas has won 2023-24 Turkish Cup with 3:2 scoreline against Trabzonspor thanks to the last minute goal from Al Musrati as game has been ended at very high tempo and dramatic manner as Besiktas to some extend has been saved its season and has ended poor season with cup.

It has been known that Besiktas has been taken Turkish Cup as priority from the moment when it became clear that it chances for title has been dropped and it has been clear into performance how team performed that it has wanted to win this cup. Stating that, Besiktas didnt have very good start as Trabzonspor did provide much more effective and attacking game which led for them to concede goal from Paul Onuachu. However, penalty goal at the end of 1st half from Rachid Ghezzal has been turning point for them as it has shown much more stronger performance with looking for chances which it did find with great goal from Salih Ucan after which side has shown more attacking game. It needs to be mentioned that on downside Besiktas did show some relaxation towards end which led for side to concede goal from Pepe but has shown strong recovery from that goal and Al Musrati has made clear that he and his team doesnt want for game to go to extra-time.

Trabzonspor did have a good start of the game at the final game where it did look to be favourite as it did find a great goal thanks to the Paul Onuachu on 23rd minute and did show pretty good performance during 1st half but conceded goal at the end of 1st half had a  negative impact as it couldnt provide same amount of control of the ball and did lose possession of the game during 2nd half. Despite of that Trabzonspor did find an important goal thanks to the Pepe goal but rather than providing focus into defensive game, it did allow Besiktas to create a chance which led them to find a goal from Al Musrati at the end of the season. Trabzonspor therefore did provide a good performance and shouldnt be criticised too much with tonight's performance, but its downside has been that it did lose control of the game among possession during 2nd half. Therefore, Trabzonspor if it can find issue with its performance, it should be studying what went wrong in 2nd half and that taking account that it did find equaliser on 89th minute.

Therefore, Besiktas did get well-deserved Turkish Cup when looking how side has performed both during final and also generally at competition as it has ended poor season with cup and also got ticket to Europa League play-off round.

Fenerbahce is getting ready to an exciting CEO election.

Fenerbahce CEO Ali Koc and CEO candidate Aziz Yildirim have announced their administrative team for upcoming CEO election as it is expected to be pretty intense campaign.

It needs to be mentioned that if Fenerbahce does win title following last week games, Ali Koc would almost quarantee his CEO position and in fact Aziz Yildirim did state that he would run as candidate if it wins. However, if Galatasaray would get title, Aziz Yildirim could have some realistic chances to win election as Ali Koc didnt win title during all his reign and in fact only won Turkish Cup. Due of some decisions, actions and statements in this period did have some negative impact to team and hence Ali Koc=Champion slogan didnt been fulfilled. Aziz Yildirim despite of last season, which mainly been due of aftermath of match-fixing scandal, did have some reign and some people believe he could turn around this unlucky period.

Hence, we could experience very exciting election between two candidates as was case when both of them went against each other 6 years ago.

Statements from administrators can have negative impact to clubs.

Both Fenerbahce and Galatasaray prior to very important game at Super League last week where champions would be decided, are making lots of statements regarding derby game and its aftermath. And this could have some negative impact.

Our blog has been stated several times that when administrators start making lots of heated statements, there has been observed to be decline of performance of the team and this could have impact both to Galatasaray and Fenerbahce. In fact, when looking into opponent, Galatasaray opponent is more crucial as its opponent does need at least point while Fenerbahce plays against relagated side which didnt win for long time. Now, it would be important for technical staff to keep focus of the players onto providing best performance at the field but it could be difficult task with so many announcements from administrators made.

There is arleady lots of tension prior to last week and some tension outside of football has been added to mix.
