What happened in Turkish football today? 13/10/2023

Galatasaray looked to passive against Copenhagen at very crucial game.

Galatasaray has lost Champions League 6th week game against Copenhagen with 1:0 scoreline which led them to end group stage at 3rd place and enter to Europa League but it did lose an opportunity to get to knockout stages of Champions League.

Prior to game, Galatasaray did come out for only to win game as draw did go into hand of opponent and even through Copenhagen rightfully did provide game according to this scenario, Galatasaray did need to be much creative and aggressive on the field but it did lack with creating some chances. Galatasaray did have much better possession of the ball during 1st half but it did failed to create chances and provide too much pressure into Copenhagen goal, with in fact most dangerous chance has been. With Galatasaray needing to win game, it was expected for them to provide much more pressure but more or less it has been played in same game and with Copenhagen using its opportunity in attack it did find a crucial goal. Interestingly, Galatasaray did show much more better performance towards end when chances has been low.

It could be argued that Galatasaray did deserve to be at knockout stages when looking in overall performance but its been far from getting that crucial 3 points at the game yesterday.

Fenerbahce still has chance to end group at top.

Despite of losing two last games at Conference League, Fenerbahce has very realistic chances of getting to knockout stages of the competition and even end at top spot if Ludogorets and Nordsjaelland end game with draw.

Fenerbahce would be playing against weakest link at the group Spartak Trnava who only has 1 point and would come to game in sense of formality so winning them would automatically mean it would get to knockout stages as it is being 1 point from Nordsjaelland and same point with Ludogorets, so it wouldnt matter for other opponents as long it wins. There are also opportunity as been mentioned for top spot if two oponents end the game with draw if Fenerbahce wins which is being realistic outcome as both sides are being similar level and Nordsjaelland 7:1 is impressive but should not big referenece. Fenerbahce with also providing similar performance it did in start of the season and playing home would be expected to dominate at home ground.

Fenerbahce hence are being favourites against Spartak Trnava and it does look that game in pararrel game would be even more important for them.

Both Besiktas and Lugano will play formality game

Conference League last week game between Besiktas and Lugano would be game for formality entirely as both sdies dont have any mathematical chances for knockout stages.

Besiktas are going through very difficult period as it did lose to Fenerbahce with 3:1 scoreline without providing too much resistance to opponent and hence it would be aiming for win to regain confidence and motivation but apart that it would be game with both sides who would like to put strong final point at group stage but would be lacking motivation for game.

Both sides would be hence playing without much motivation and it would be pretty slow and uneventful game.
