What happened in Turkish football today? 11/02/2021

Besiktas got into semi-final after penalties.

As was expected, Konyaspor did provide much higher resistance to Besiktas during Turkish Cup quarter-final game compare to league game on 7th January, and that what precisely happened as Konyaspor showed fast response to conceded goal and brought games to penalties.

Besiktas did come with much more rotating side during this game compare to Super League which did provide some difficulty for side without doubt to get more control of the game even if compare to league game it did play with 1:1 scoreline. Among Konyaspor providing much more performance compare to previous game which also could be due of changes of head coach as during this period it did end contract with Ismail Kartal and appointed Ilhan Palut who does provide usually open style performance hence Konyaspor did provide much more confident performance even through to some extend it did provide defensive game against such opponent. Besiktas on positive note did provide strong attacking game looking for opportunities despite of all facors and did provide all signs that it did focus to get win and didnt actually be looking for penalties in this game.

Konyaspor meanwhile did provide much more resistance compare to Super League game as side did tried to give fighting spirit with being looked to be more concentrated and focus towards this game which hence being more focussed into Turkish Cup as it being currently much faster route for European competition for this game which did them to show much stronger game. Another factor which did affect to performance has been change of head coach as Ilhan Palut is much more focussed into possitive game and without doubt Konyaspor even through didnt look much more confident compare to Besiktas, it did show signs of providing much more attacking game in upcoming weeks. Therefore, Konyaspor does provide some positive signs and would now focus into league games with aiming to end league at better spot then now.

Besiktas got through to semi-final where it would be having pretty tough game against Basaksehirspor where very likely both side would focus to get to final of this tournament.

Antalyaspor reaches to semi-final thanks to penalty goal.

Antalyaspor has reached to semi-final thanks to penalty goal from Fredy as both sides did provide controllable game with occassionally getting control of the game even through Sivasspor did look to be attacking game during 2nd half.

Both sides did show slow tempo game during 1st half getting to know each other with also being played as 1 leg did provide both sides to show some defensive game with risk of getting behind from such crucial game as both sides certainly take this tournament seriously as it is being only route to reach to Europa League when looking in the standings in the league. In fact, if Fredy didnt come on 62nd minute it could been played in such tempo with possibility of game reaching to extra-time. However, with Sivasspor conceding goal it did led them to provide much more attacking game looking for opportunities and getting in fact good ones with hitting into cross in one position while for most positions it continues to have issues with final touches. Antalyaspor on their part didnt provide high tempo game with showing patient game with letting Sivasspor to control ball with focussing into defence performance. This result means that Antalyaspor would be playing with Alanyaspor at semi-final which means one of the Antalya municipiality will get to Turkish Cup final.

Antalyaspor reaches to semi-final thanks to penalty goal with showing patient game against Sivasspor.

Galatasaray didnt take Alanyaspor seriously.

Following relegation from Turkish Cup by Fenerbahce, Galatasaray has become 3rd club among top 4 clubs which been relegated from this competition as it did lose with 3:2 scoreline despite of coming out with perfect starting 11 squad.

Even through Galatasaray did come out to the game with perfect 11 squad with only replacing injured and red card players, it needs to be noted that Galatasaray didnt look like their have taken this game as serious as did Fatih Terim since their didnt provide strong performance with high focus with letting Alanyaspor to control game until their got well-deserved leadership with 3:0 scoreline with being possibly focussed too much mentally into title race which is taking place at league. Hence, this not unseriousness from side and quite opposite attitude which been taken from both sides did lead to such outcome. Still, on positive note Galatasaray did try to get back into game finding 2 goals thanks to Mostafa Mohammed and Gerson Fernandes but its been too late.

Surely, such unseriousness from players would provide some worry to head coach Fatih Terim with attitude which been showing from players and would lead him to criticise them very likely.
