What happened in Turkish football today? 14/12/2020

Besiktas didnt provide enough fighting spirit for 3 points.

Even through loss to Alanyaspor should not be seen as big surprise for Besiktas, way how Istanbul side did approach has been unexpecting as side did provide very good performance during recent weeks.

With Besiktas winning last 3 weeks while their opponents did lose 2 weeks, it was expecting for Besiktas to provide upper hand especially when Alanyaspor did play 2 other games during this week where it didnt get wanted result, but it did look during whole game that Alanya side were more focussed, motivated for this game while opponents has been tired. Alanyaspor been specifically with regaining ball control even when it did lose it with showing much more organised attacking game, while Besiktas did fail to respond to this tempo in effective manner. Even through Besiktas does provide some unhappiness with referee performance, it needs to be noted that decisions were correct including penalty one, therefore club would need to focus more into reasons why it didnt show great game during this week game. Besiktas didnt lose title of course in this season, but it did lose golden oppotunity to get closer to leadership while opponnent got leadership with point difference again.

Besiktas did manage to continue its winning streak but it didnt provide much fighting for this 3 points compare to opponents for sure.

Fatih Terim would test recovered players from Covid19 against Darica Genclerbirligi.

Galatasaray would be starting its Turkish Cup campaign, with 3rd league opponent Darica Genclerbirligi game as it didnt play for week and half due of getting week-off in schedule of season.

Even through in such games it is expected for young and reserve players to be getting playing time, it is expected that Fatih Terim would be using this game as an opportunity to check physical condition of players which been recovered recently from Covid19 and would using it test game for Super League 13th week game against Fatih Karagumruk. As would be expected, Galatasaray would be coming to the game as favourites for this game and with such squad it could have even more difficult game, to all respect to them as those recovered players would be aiming to prove their valuableness for upcoming games.

Therefore, this game would be important opportunity for recovered players to show themselves with modest opponent in Turkish Cup.

TFF has reduced quarantine from 14 to 10-days.

TFF has announced that quarantine period for Covid19 infected players would be reduced from 14 to 10 days as long as their get negative test in the end of this duration.

With Turkish Health Ministry few days ago did reduce quarantine period from 14 to 10-days, its been expected that TFF would follow suit with this decision especially when in many countries it is proven that it is safe to back after 10 days since it doesnt spread following that period, as virus behaviour continues to be still studied and understood. According to decision, if test would be given negative on 10th day, player would be able to back with whole team on 11th day. However,if test does shown to be positive again, he would need to get two negative test results in different days back-to-back. This decision would be especially be treated positively by CEOs of clubs since their didnt complain that period is been too long.

This would hence likely also reduce number of postponed games since players would be back to squad 4 days earlier.
