What happened in Turkish football today? 10/12/2020

Sivasspor didnt get result which it seeked for with 14-players at squad

Sivasspor has lost its final game of Group I at Europa League to Maccabi Tel-Aviv with 1:0 scoreline as it did come out to the game with 14-player squad as side been effected from Covid19 most heavily in Turkey.

It needs to be noted that both side did provide pretty organised game as draw would be enough to get to the knockout stage while Sivasspor only had option to get through and even through many people would argue that Sivasspor would need to win its opponent due of difference of strengths it needs to be mentioned with so many absences and without head coach Riza Calimbay who is currently isolating due of Covid19, side still provided pretty good performance but it is true it could show much more effective in the front. Therefore, even through Sivasspor did come out in this group with aim to get to the knockout stages with media also believing them it needs to be remembered in what circumstances it played at group stage and did provide some attacking focussed game including against Villarreal at home. Therefore, with such difficult circumstances its did provide its best without doubt and did gaim important experience from this tournament at Covid times.

Maccabi Tel-Aviv did come out with being that its more advantegous in this game for knockout stages and provided high level controllable game not allowing opponent to get control ball for long time and used opportunity which been converted to goal.

Sivasspor as been noted is having difficult season but does have opportunity to focus more into league which is not going as their planned it would for sure.

Basaksehirspor made their mark with racism stance strongly.

Regardless of scoreline, it was important without doubt for both Basaksehirspor and PSG to complete Champions League Group H last week game and their did that by showing togetherness with fight against racism.

Since PSG did come out to the game with focus to get top position in the table while for Basaksehirspor this game didnt have any reason with also being team which been mostly affected by Coltescu behaviour, it was expected to PSG to provide better game and that what took place with Basaksehirspor not showing good game and losing concentration of fixture after conceding back-to-back. However, Basaksehirspor as been noted did provide historical stance against racism without doubt and did hence mark their word both for domestic and global football with such actions. In addition, Basaksehirspor without doubt did provide very good performance in this group in overall despite of getting last spot and has gained important experience which would help them to move forward as club.

Basaksehirspor both did make their mark in the tournament without doubt both with performance and stance against racism.

Leaders Alanyaspor lost 2-games back-to-back

Alanyaspor has lost its leadership at the top in table, despite of still being there in the end of the week, as it lost to Goztepe with 1:0 scoreline  during postponed game due of earthquake at Izmir.

Alanyaspor during its game against Goztepe and also Genclerbirligi did show some drop of performance level without doubt and would need to find ways to start showing once again fighting spirit, but losing 2 weeks back-to-back is not being good signs for them. There were questions of how long Alanyaspor, which by many been seen as best side in the league of how long it would be able to show such top game and it does look like this period did come even through still being in the top due of goal difference it has opportunity to focus into bouncing back especially taking account that game against Besiktas would even provide extra motivation with getting result from top side. Therefore, its crucial to Alanyaspor to identify why performance went down in this 2 weeks and focus into getting good results again.

As been noted, it needs to get back into usual performance and Besiktas is good opportunity to bounce back strongly.
