What happened in Turkish football today? 21/08/2019

Trabzonspor are coming out as favourites against AEK but it could be tough game.

Trabzonspor are going to resume its road to the Europa League group stage as it is going to meet with AEK Athens at play-off round where Trabzonspor are looked to be favourite but still it can be pretty tough tie for them.

Without doubt, Trabzonspor would be aiming to provide similar performance which it did during previous round against Slavia Prague especially during 2nd leg rather then it did against Kasimpasa at Super League as it in latter it did show poor performance. With taking account that Trabzonspor main priority right now is to get group stage, it could be expected that club would show stronger concentration to this game and hence could provide much attacking game. Without doubt role of its new star Alexander Sorloth would be an important one once again as he would be looking to find chances and score his 4th goal back-to-back as team members likely to assist him to achieve that aim. AEK Athens meanwhile would also show good performance so its important for Black Sea side to show good game at defence also.

Trabzonspor would be coming out to tough game but it is slightly favourite and without doubt it would be looking to get an advantage scoreline at away game.

Trabzonspor has signed Daniel Sturridge for 3-years.

Staying with Trabzonspor, club has made one of the most talkative transfers possible of the week as it has managed to make 3-year contract with Daniel Sturridge as it managed to convince player to join team following almost 2 month transfer negotiations with player.

Taking account that Sturridge is 29 year old and still can provide top level performance, even through it might not be logical to expect same game as he showed in prime years at Liverpool, would been great transfer for team. Even due of known financial situation at the team, it is impressive to see that team has managed to convince player as he did recieve numerous other transfer deals. Visit of his family in last week which also included being present at game against Kasimpasa and positive impact it had to his family has played also an important role. There would be high expectations both with providing experience towards younger players and also player showing some good performance still.

This deal has been very effective and with Sturridge aiming after now to have fast period of adaptation as player he would be able to provide top level performance for his new team and help them chances for league title.

PSV Eindhoven has loaned Galatasaray player Kostas Mitroglou.

With Galatasaray currently aiming to open foreign player limit with main aim to sign Radamel Falcao without much issue, it has loaned its player Kostas Mitroglou to PSV Eindhoven

Kostas Mitroglou who have joined into mid-season transfer window did occasionally show good performance and did find goals which helped for league title, but in overall he did fulfill expectations which was set towards player and was known that he has been among players to be sold during this summer transfer window. Having trouble at finding club for him, it was decided to loan him to PSV Eindhoven. This termination in addiiton has actually provided sign that Galatasaray are close to transfer Radamel Falcao as it could be also seen as window to transfer another foreign player as otherwise Mitroglou could be still used as good alternative in attack for sure.

It is hard to state that Mitroglou during half year didnt provide much help to team but it is clear that he didnt fulfill his expectations and hence loaning to Dutch side could be seen normal action.
