What happened in Turkish football today? 07/06/2024

Galatasaray extends contract with Okan Buruk for 2-years.

Galatasaray has extended contract with its head coach Okan Buruk for 2-years as during press conference both coach and CEO Dursun Ozbek has promised its supporters and media that it will win 25th title next season.

Okan Buruk has won back-to-back title in same amount of years he has been as Galatasaray head coach and hence due of lots of demand from supporters and also adminstration without doubt being happy with his performance it was expected that he would be extending contract and it needs to be mentioned that deal did been made immediately but announcemnt been delayed due of title race and also CEO elections at the team. With Okan Buruk feeling comfortable at the team and having high aims for upcoming season, it would be expected for team to make some important additions in summer transfer window by the way.

With Galatasaray showing dominance at Super League in past 2-season, it is no secret as been stated from Okan Buruk that new aim will be Champions League.

Basaksehirspor has used transfer option of Jerome Opoku.

Basaksehirspor has used transfer option of 1.5 million euro of Arouca player Jerome Opoku as player did show some strong and confident performance and strong adaptation at the side.

Even through Basaksehirspor didnt necessarily  have very good season, it needs to be mentioned that it did have good ending of it and one of the players who has played an important role for such effective ending has been Opoku who has provided strong performance at the team and played an important role with many goals. With such performance and also showing some potential for upcoming years it should not be seen as suprise that team has used an option to transfer him.

Jerome Opoku has been an important player for the team without doubt and would be continued to be key player for the team next season.

Fenerbahce CEO election has been going in heated manner.

Fenerbahce is getting ready for CEO election which would be taking place on 8th-9th June as it is has been very heated election campaign both for Ali Koc and Aziz Yildirim.

Football supporters and followers of Turkish football for long time might remembered that election which took place 6-years ago has also been taking place in such heated area as Koc has beaten after 20-years of Aziz Yildirim reign. This campaign has been dominated by accusations, blames and Jose Mourinho issue of who has signed him and in what conditions sometimes taking an ugly face and actually making lots of followers of clubs unwanted. Sadly, Aziz Yildirim who during last years of his reign did provide view of being like leader of mafia, did once again show such character while Koc also sounded pretty harsh and tough.

As been noted, CEO election campaign has been going in pretty heated and it would be hoped that CEO election weekend will be going in much more calmer conditions but it doesnt look to be case.
