What happened in Turkish football today? 13/06/2024



Medical staff is being precautious with Irfan Can Kahveci injury.

Situation of Turkish National Team player Irfan Can Kahveci is being uncertain due of his injury but it does look like that national team medical staff is more treating situation due of precaution measure as player himself reported to be feeling ready.

With taking account that Irfan Can Kahveci did have an outstanding season with Fenerbahce, he is being seen one of the first names which would be written at the starting 11 in the game against Georgia and other games upcoming if he would be available at the squad which does describe why medical staff members are working hard but in same precautiously regarding of recovery of the player. Therefore, it would be expected for player to be taking serious attention to his recovery process if he wants to be starting against Georgia as medical staff would be checking his condition on daily basis.

It does look like Irfan Can Kahveci would be in good condition in the start of the Euro 2024 and he would be ready latest for game against Portugal.

TFF changed formats of Turkish Cup and Super Cup.

TFF has announced changes of Turkish Cup and Turkish Super Cup format aiming it to make more competitive in their view with most drastic changes coming at Turkish Cup as it aims to make Swiss system similar at Champions League.

According to format, which would go into effect next season, 24 clubs would be qualified for group stage which would be divided to 4 group with 6 teams reach where each team would be playing 3 games with top 2 being qualified to knockout stages. Another addition will be that knockout stages would be played with single game. In addition, after next season Super Turkish Super Cup would be played with runners-up of Super League and finalists of Turkish Cup among winners of two competitions. This change of format is made to make football in country more competitive and also raise among of games to be played in the season.

Time would show what effect it would have to both competitions but it would be unusual format for sure at Turkish Cup.

Rizespor signs Giannis Papanikolaou for 3-years 

Rizespor has made its first transfer of the season as it has transferred Rakow player Giannis Papanikolaou for 3-years as player is expected to provide strength to the team in upcoming season.

Being relatively young player, Papanikolaou does have potential and is being more or less in level of Rizespor but with player still aiming to prove himself and does actually slightly raise of level as he would be competing in more competitive league could have positive impact both to player and club in upcoming season as it could be aiming for higher spots compare to this season. Papanikolaou also got opportunity to attend pre-season training session from start and hence will not have adaptation issues.

This has been an important move for Greek player but Rizespor would need to make some more crucial transfer to raise level of performance compare to previous season.
