What happened in Turkish football today? 09/02/2024

Besiktas gets to quarter-final thanks to goals from Jackson Muleka.

Besiktas has managed to get into quarter-final of Turkish Cup after beating Antalyaspor with 2:1 scoreline despite of not providing very good performance during 1st half but did improve a lot in 2nd half.

As been noted, game has been played with two halves as Antalyaspor has been side which did control game as it wanted during 1st half and did go ahead with 1:0 scoreline but did make an mistake for not pushing even more for 2nd half. With some changes during half-time with especially introducing Jackson Muleka into field during 2nd half has provided much more strong and confident performance as Muleka did take a leading role in attack and hence did score 2 goals and showed his best performance since joining team. Still, as been noted by Fernando Santos himself, team did lack at showing dominant game for full game and this would be an area which team would need to work at.

Besiktas did get to quarter-final and counting win against Trabzonspor it did have back-to-back to wins, but it is clear that Besiktas is still not showing strong performance which would be expected from them.

Trabzonspor still shows poor performance.

Trabzonspor in fact did have similar fate as did Besiktas did later on game but in more difficult scenario as it did find an equalised against 1st league side during additional time of 1st half and got winner at extra-time.

It is true that field condition at Ankara stadium is being in very poor conditions and does prevent both sides to show maximum performance which they could but in general Trabzonspor is being on poor performance level and this has been case. To all respect to Genclerbirligi, who did show good and organised game for 90 minutes, for team like Trabzonspor who also gets Turkish Cup seriously to find equaliser so late shows in what condition is Trabzonspor right now. It would be main task for Abdullah Avci without doubt in near future and as soon as possible to improve level of performance of team in upcoming weeks.

Trabzonspor are still showing ineffective  performance and it does need to find ways into improving it in short period.

Basaksehirspor game could turn around to be tough game for Galatasaray

Galatasaray would be resuming its title race ambitions at the Super League with a game against Basaksehirspor who is showing some improvement in recent weeks and could potentially provide some problems to Istanbul giant.

Galatasaray with playing game against Sparta Prague at Europa League would once again aim to solve an issue of the game in early moments and hence would be looking for an early goals but Basaksehirspor would be expected to show some good defensive organised game and hence prevent for such an event. Galatasaray would be coming as favourite as it does in all games during this season but it could turn around into tough game for them as opponent can show some strong attitude with how it performs. This game would also provide some opportunity for new signings to get some playing time.

Galatasaray as been noted will be coming out as favourites but it would be tough 90 minutes likely.
