What happened in Turkish football today? 15/08/2023

Galatasaray gets through Champions League play-off round after beating Olimpija Ljubjana with 4:0 aggregate scoreline.

Galatasaray has reached to Champions League play-off round after it has beaten Olimpija Ljubjana at home ground with 1:0 scoreline thanks to Mauro Icardi goal and has went through this round with an aggregate scoreline of 4:0.

Despite of getting confident win against Olimpija Ljubjana during 1st leg game, due of Turkey needing to raise its coefficient points Galatasaray without doubt did come out for win and even through it did get with minumum scoreline it still got an important points. It needs to be mentioned that with Galatasaray getting advantegous scoreline, playing at home and also motivation of affecting coefficient point did provide much more motivation and confidence to Galatasaray and this has affected to how side performed without doubt. Hence, without providing too much effort it did get what it seeked for and didnt let Olimpija Ljubjana to get any chances to get formality result and didnt provide much chances. Without doubt, side also got an important motivation and confidence prior to league game against Trabzonspor.

Result of the 1st leg without doubt has a direct impact into how Olimpija Ljubjana would perform and has been demotivated and also had difficulties at playing at one of the most difficult games and all this factors did lead for Olimpija Ljubjana not providing enough pressure not only to turn around this tie, but also get at least win.

With this result Galatasaray would be meeting with Molde who did get through surprising side of this tournament Klaksvik after an extra time at play-off round.

Besiktas has started league with win despite of poor performance.

Besiktas has got an important goal at 88th minute thanks to the great organisation and short from Gedson Fernandes which led side to start new season with a win but it needs to be mentioned that Besiktas did provide pretty ineffective and slow tempo performance against Fatih Karagumruk.

Besiktas it needs to be mentioned has failed to raise tempo for 90 minutes of the game but it is being especially case during 1st half where it hardly got into dangerous attacks yet to find some clear chances to get ahead of the game. There was an important opportunity for Besiktas to get ahead of the game during start of the game but Vincent Aboubakar missed his penalty in Turkey at surprising pretty bad shot as goalkeeper of Fatih Karagumruk did make pretty easy safe. Besiktas did raise tempo during end of the game as it did look for winning goal but it is still hard to state that it got full control of the game and did create dangerous chances with most dangerous been a goal as it been very good goal from Fernandes at right moment of the game.

Besiktas didnt necesarilly provide very good performance as it did look passive and this should be an area which Senol Gunes need to look at during training sessions.

Basel has loaned Galatasaray player Yusuf Demir

Basel has loaned Galatasaray player Yusuf Demir as player wasnt able to fulfill his potentiality at the team as he didnt recieve much of playing time during previous and this season.

Yusuf Demir has been transferred as one of the key players in the team and did have high potentiality but head coach Okan Buruk did hardly start with him during previous season as side did blame foreign player limit but since Demir did get right to play with blue card system, Buruk didnt use him. Hence, sending him as loan at team where he would be able to get some good playing time and where he is familiar is would be win-win situation for all parties involved.

Yusuf Demir didnt get much chance to show himself at Galatasaray and now would hence join team where he could get some more playing time.
