What happened in Turkish football today? 20/11/2022

Turkey has shown some impressive performance against Czech Republic.

Turkish National Team has completed its international friendly 2-game period with a win against Czech Republic of 2:1 as team has provided strong and confident performance where some youngsters got some playing time.

In similar manner as friendly game against Scotland, it could be stated that Turkey has shown seriousness to the game as it aimed to get into winning spirit, positive performance and also got over aftermath of getting only 1 point at Luxembourg and Faroe Islands game. Even through there were some times when Czechs did get control of the side, it needs to be admitted that in overall Turkey has been side which has controlled game for most amount of time 90 minutes and among scoring 2 great goals it has also been looking for much more. It has been especially important for players like Arda Guler and Tayyip Talha Sanuc to get some playing time in very young age and get adapted to the side in short period of time

Therefore, Turkey did end this friendly period in good manner with beating both Scotland and Czech Republic with 2:1 scorelines.

Cuneyt Cakir has ended his refereeing career.

Meanwhile, this game has also marked end of active refereeing for one of the best referees in Turkey Cuneyt Cakir as he refereed for 5 minutes of the game and got very good farewell which he deserved.

This has been first time in Turkish football history where its own federation has provided farewell event for its referee and has done in good manner as both side players and coaches also provided warm words to Cuneyt Cakir. Cakir it needs to be mentioned has got in his career further then football clubs as he refereed Champions League final, been participating at World Cup and Euro while Turkey didnt get ticket. In fact, if he didnt come to end of his career he could have gone to the World Cup in Qatar. Hence, he did mark an important place both in Turkish football and also in world as he did got praised and occassionally criticised.

Good news is that he would be working from now on with developing new coaches and hence raise chances for country to develop referees in same level on near future.

20 players from Super League will be participating at World Cup 2022.

In total of 20 players from Super League will be participating at World Cup 2022 with Galatasaray sending most amount of players with 5 of them aiming to show strong performance.

To some extend, the highest chance for among of those 20 players to come back to Turkey as World Cup champions are being Fenerbahce player Michy Barthuayi and Galatasaray player Dries Mertens at Belgium as their are seen as more or less dark horses to win title and expect to get at least to quarter final. With no Turkey at the tournament and referees hence those twenty players would be getting most amount of interest towards World Cup. Meanwhile, even through there are some questions of how successful would be World Cup in our view we might be having pretty exciting tournament as number of quality players in tournament is being high.

As our blog is focussed into Turkish football, we might not cover much of World Cup but we would have some infos occassionally.
