What happened in Turkish football today? 04/01/2022

Besiktas does suffer a lot from Covid19.

2022 would be starting with Turkish Super Cup where previous season both Super League and Turkish Cup winners Besiktas would be meeting with Turkish Cup finalists Antalyaspor.

Besiktas meanwhile it needs to be noted has been among sides which been heavily affected from Covid19 variant Omicron as number of cases has been rise again in Turkey. With missing around 8 players, Besiktas does have some trouble with making ideal squad as it missing crucial starting 11 and high number of youth players would have opportunity to provide some performance and show themselves into technical staff with some players would be continuing for some weeks in the league. It would be interesting how those cases would affect to side performance during Super Cup final.

Normally, Besiktas would be seen as favourites with focus to start 2022 at high but Covid19 cases could provide issue to side.

Antalyaspor will come out to more ideal squad against Besiktas.

Even through 4 players would not be able to play due of Covid19 with 1 player getting positive test result and 3 being due of being with contract, there would be coming out with more closer ideal squad.

It needs to be noted that generally Antalyaspor has been coming out with more or less good results during recent weeks and would be coming with some good motivation and confidence which been come out with good recent performance with Nuri Sahin. Therefore, Antalyaspor will be coming out with strong confidence against Besiktas believing it would be coming out to the game with getting Cup as it would be with opportunity to play against opponent who would be coming out far from ideal squad.

Antalyaspor would be focussed to this game entirely and it would be interesting to see how their would be responding to weaker squad of opponent.

Covid19 is starting spreading again in Turkish football and whole country

Covid19 variant Omicron stop showing some serious rise of case in Turkey and has been affected once again to Turkish players as we start getting some positive test results.

There were reported cases with Besiktas and Galatasaray players and also Fenerbahce CEO Ali Koc and with looking into Covid19 Omicron variant has affected English Premier League it is being very important for Super League sides to once again provide some serious attention to this virus as it is being unlikely for TFF to stop league unless situation gets once again very critical again for sure. With cases rising following New Year celebration, with players without doubt being more or less active during this days it would be expected for number of cases to rise in those days but it is important for players and clubs to prevent more spread.

Sadly, we are experiencing some deja vu with Covid19 and football community needs to take messures seriously again.
