What happened in Turkish football today? 28/12/2021

Galatasaray got unexpected relegation from Denizlispor.

Denizlispor has marked so far biggest surprising outcome in the Turkish Cup during this season as it managed to beat Galatasaray through penalties with 6:5 scoreline after 120 minutes game has ended with 3:3 scoreline.

It needs to state that even through Galatasaray has been eliminated from 1st league side and should been getting through in much confident manner, it did provide strong fighting spirit with catching up its opponent twice with getting behind twice and get leadership but did got own goal from Nelsson on extra-time which to some extend did affect final outcome. To some extend, there were expectations for Galatasaray to provide much more aggressive game but in all fairness Denizlispor did come for win and did provide some serious issue to their defence for 90 minutes with getting crucial goals.

Denizlispor without doubt did provide strong brave game against Galatasaray with providing confident football and using weaknesses of its opponent which been present in recent weeks.

Galatasaray had got unexpected elimination from Turkish Cup and this game did remind that side does need to work both tactically and with squad for upcoming season.

Trabzonspor starts Turkish Cup with calm but positive result.

Trabzonspor has started its Turkish Cup campaign with minumum scoreline of 1:0 scoreline against Boluspor thanks to the goal from Fode Koita as side did play with academy and players which didnt recieve lots of playing time.

Trabzonspor did come to the game with high motivation and confidence to this game as there are continuing leadership in the Super League with 7 point difference and as been expected this affect positively to Turkish Cup. Even through Trabzonspor did win with minumum scoreline, it did control game from start to an end with only issue that it didnt rise tempo very highly but this could been expected due of opponent and squad which it come. Therefore with low tempo performance it got important win as it would be focussing also to get double in the end of the season.

Meanwhile, Boluspor did provide good performance on their level with providing some opportunities and reducing tempos but could provide enough pressure towards Trabzonspor.

Trabzonspor hence started in slow tempo but successful manner Turkish Cup with minumum scoreline and would now focus into continuing successful season in both tournaments.

Fenerbahce will be focussing for new beginning in Turkish Cup.

Fenerbahce would be beginning its Turkish Cup journey at 5th round against 2nd league side Afjet Afyonspor as it is expected to be coming with academy and players which dont recieve much playing time.

Fenerbahce which so far did provide dissapointing performances at Super League and in Europe would be seeing Turkish Cup as opportunity to save its season and provide high focus game with an aim to save its dissapointing performance which it shows right now. Therefore, even if Fenerbahce would be coming out with alternative starting 11 squad, while Afjet Afyonspor would be focussing into providing strong competitive game with focussing into showing confident performance with aim to prove themselves.

Fenerbahce hence would be coming as favourites due of level between sides while Afjet Afyonspor would show some pressure to opponent.
