What happened in Turkish football today? 09/12/2021

Galatasaray what it seeked for against Lazio

Galatasaray has completed at the top spot in its group at the Europa League following drawless draw against Lazio and got itself into last 16 stage which means it would not play at next stage.

Galatasaray did come out to the game with knowing that 1 point against closest opponent would be enough to reach this aim and with looking to some opportunities it did play in controllable game with providing defence to its opponents not letting Immobile especially to provide game which is been suitable for him. With achieving this without doubt it got needed control of the game for 90 minutes and did let control its game. Without doubt, experience from Fatih Terim in such crucial games did play important role as side for lots of time did manage that it needed when it play for scoreline and did show great example of this.

Lazio did come out with focus to win game and tried to show performance according to that but it didnt overpass opponent strong organised game.

Galatasaray hence ended group stage in the top and would now have around 3 month break from Europa League.

Fenerbahce ends Europa League journey with draw

Fenerbahce competes group stage of Europa League with 1:1 draw draw against leaders in the group Eintracht Frankfurt as it would now focus to Conference League since it ended at 3rd place.

With Eintracht Frankfurt needed draw to end group stage at the top spot and Fenerbahce securing 3rd spot, the game been played at moderate tempo with both sides providing open football which led for high amount of positions since both sides were not in much risk prior to game. It needs to be noted that despite of this,Fenerbahce did focus into showing positive attacking game as it did create some good opportunities with Mergim Berisha being especially willing at the front as he did score and also got some good off side goals during game.

Eintracht Frankfurt hence did show some good game for 90 minutes without feeling pressure especially with Antwerp winning in parellel game with both sides showing open calm game.

Fenerbahce did end group stage and would now focus into getting to Conference League next year.

Sergen Yalcin has resigned as Besiktas head coach

Besiktas head coach Sergen Yalcin has resigned from his post as he did show some poor performance during this season so far with Yalcin providing resignation himself.

Sergen Yalcin has been considering to be leaving side for long time with providing resignation to club during previous week where administration didnt accept it but with losing following 2 games its been decided to sell him. It was right decision for him to leave as he didnt believe himself into success and didnt find solution for those issues which only meant that this could provide any help both to his career and to the team. One thing is certain, Yalcin wasnt in same form which he was on previous season without doubt which did affect to his outcome and quite likely he would go into break. Right now, Besiktas is actively looking for head coach until Fenerbahce which would take next weekend.

Sergen Yalcin didnt have good period during this season and him leaving side sadly for him couldnt be prevented.
