What happened in Turkish football today? 08/12/2021

Besiktas showed very dissapointing performance at Champions League

Besiktas without doubt had very dissapointing and poor performance at the Champions League ending it with 0 points and concluded its campaign with 5:0 loss to Borussia Dortmund.

Coming out to the game purely for formality as its been out it has concluded its European journey, it did have issue to get into the game with Borussia Dortmund getting full control of the game with providing even more upper hand after red card from Wellinton. With Turkish clubs getting direct entry to tournament for last time and also period when points are needed for UEFA, this performance in overall been dissapointing and sadly shows reason why Turkish champions will not get direct entry to tournament from next season.

Besiktas would now need to focus into domestic league where it is currently 18 points behind league leaders Trabzonspor.

Galatasaray needs to get draw to get leadership.

Galatasaray would be coming to Europa League last week game game against Lazio with being only draw away from getting top spot and passing next round.

Only side from Turkey which did show good performance and hence contributed most to country points has been Galatasaray as it didnt lose game in such tough game and now would be coming to most important game possibly of whole season as even draw could be enough for top spot which would mean it would go through next stage. However, playing against tough opponent like Lazio which is highly motivated it could be pretty dangerous to come on the field with focus into getting draw and should provide strong pressure to opponents for 90 minutes. Lazio could provide some issue to side so it should be strongly focussed.

If Galatasaray goes through as leaders it would be not getting possible tough opponent on next stage so this draw will be crucial for them.

Fenerbahce will focus to end Europa League at high point.

Fenerbahce would be coming out to last game of the Europa League against group leaders Eintracht Frankfurt hoping to end this tournament at high point.

It needs to be mentioned that it would be tough game as German side did come as favourite of the group and did show in such manner while Fenerbahce were not able to fulfill its expectation but possible win could provide needed motivational and confidence boost which in long run would provide bonus for domestic league and Conference League where it would be competing after New Year. Therefore, Fenerbahce would need to come out with focus to get win but it would play against tough opponent.

Fenerbahce hence would focus to end this group stage at good point but it would be tough one.
