What happened in Turkish football in 2018? 01/01/2019

Fenerbahce Ali Koc beginning as CEO was very poor.

Fenerbahce has provided one of the most dissapointing results during 2018 especially during this performance when club's new CEO Ali Koc has started his reign and following of appointment of Damien Comolli as club's sports director.

Fenerbahce did start 2018 at the poor condition during last season but with Aykut Kocaman providing good start of the year it has kept its high chances for league title which has led for a team to enter to the last week of the season with a hope to win title. But with Fenerbahce not showing a good performance, Aziz Yildirim has lost lots of the support and has led for people to supporting Ali Koc for this position during CEO election on June. With Ali Koc becoming club's new CEO, club has started with high hopes. But with selling high number of the quality players and getting back a bit more mediocre players has led them not to show great performance. With not good performance of Phillip Cocu and later of Erwin Koeman, Fenerbahce has appointed Ersun Yanal. Fenerbahce would be entering to 2019 at 17th place and only positive aspect during this period has been getting out of group stage with lots of hope. Still, with also getting out of squad of Volkan Demirel, Nabil Dirar and Aatif Chachehouhue has shown team is not managed very well. Fenerbahce would now improve a lot and solve many issues during 2019 if their dont want to find at 2nd league next season.

Fenerbahce is going through very difficult period right now and it needs to find solutions straight away to have some hope for the end of this season and aim for higher spots.

Besiktas has lost its passion during 2018.

With Besiktas providing a pretty memorable performances during 2016 and 2017 years both domestically and in European tournaments, this year has been pretty dissapointing with team losing its tempo mainly due of older age of players.

One of the turning point for Besiktas has been scandalaus Turkish Cup semi-final 2nd leg where their was heated arguments between Fenerbahce supporters and Besiktas. This has ended with throwing piece towards head coach Senol Gunes who has led an open wound and later moved to player. After that Besiktas didnt come to the completion of the game and has recieved 1 game ban for Turkish Cup which is going through right now. After that game, Besiktas performance at the league has been dramatically dropped. Another aspect of Besiktas has been losing Talisca during summer transfer window which was leading player and raising tempo of the game pretty high and also selling Cenk Tosun during last year mid-season transfer window. Besiktas has also lost of all hopes with having older players at its squad which has depended into tempo of the players and also start playing much more slower game which was also visible at this season derby games. It also needs to be remembered that Besiktas didnt show great Europa League performance being eliminated in pretty easy group which also shows lack of performance at the team.

Besiktas would be now looking to make their squad younger with focussing into youth player and 2019 would be good test how it would achieve that.

Turkish National Team didnt show all its potential on 2018.

Turkish National Team has shown not very satisfying performance during whole year with Mircea Lucescu with main point for the team to be eliminated to League C at Nations League aftet ending its League B Group 2 at last place.

This year has been mainly been dominated by Turkish National Team head coach Mircea Lucescu who has been complained with factor that team is being too young and not very experienced since players didnt play for long time at their squad. Even through it is difficult task for national team to get positive results and going through an important new generation process, Mircea Lucescu had trouble at finding solutions towards those issues at the team. Even through Turkey has shown great performance during 2nd game against Sweden at Nations League winning game with 3:2 scoreline while losing 2:1 during 87 minute of the game and has shown great comeback during game. But in other games it wasnt able to show great game and has shown very poor performance without providing much danger to the opponents. Even through it has been relegated at tournament, it would start new journey on 2019 fighting for their spot at Euro 2020 qualifying but it needs to be come more stronger and united side when qualification would begin.

Turkey needs to focus for Euro 2020 qualifiers and believe themselves and be more confident during game and aim for great successes.
