Turkey would be looking for a win against Sweden after loss to Russia.
Turkish National Team would play its 2nd Nations League League B Group 2 against Swedish National Team, after it has lost to Russia on 7th September with 2:1 scoreline and would aim to improve performance in Stockholm.
As been stated for several times at our blog, Turkey has been going through an important changes with getting younger players getting adapted to the national team level and head coach is seeing Nations League as great opportunity to raise into level of the side. To some extend, Turkey has got a good opportunity to test its side as its opponents at the Group 2 are both being quarter-finalists of the World Cup 2018. Stating that, Nations League is also good opportunity to qualify to the Euro 2020 and hence even through many people see this as friendly competition, including Turkey, in fact this is good opportunity to get to the actual tournament. It needs to be reminded meanwhile that Sweden has lost its friendly game against Austria as it was bye team at the 3-team group on 6th September. Sweden compare to Russia meanwhile does play with slower tempo as the side and hence Turkey can provide much faster game and look for positions with its younger players.
With poor start against Russia, Turkey does need to get a win against Sweden if it wants to keep its opportunities to get to the play-off round of League B at the end of the group stage.
Mircea Lucescu needs to improve results if he wants to stay for long-term.
Meanwhile, Turkish National Team head coach Mircea Lucescu continues ot recieve some criticisms towards himself after poor performance against Russia and not providing much optimism for game against Sweden.
One of the worrying images is that to some extend Mircea Lucescu level of performance and providing best performance from his own players are not at the same level and his aging with decisions does show itself during recent period as was visible at the Zenit. Another aspect is his high level complaints about some issues. For instance, Lucescu has stated that he is unhappy to select players from different clubs even through all of the current strong teams are selected from different clubs. In fact, selecting players from 2-3 clubs also negatively effects to the national league. It does look that he is uncapable to make strong decisions and this could affect negatively to the national team. Its true that there must be given patience when new team is formed to move forward as the side, then it is problematic to the team without doubt.
Therefore, Lucescu needs to improve his performance at the national team if he wants to fulfill his long-term aim and move team forward in upcoming years.
Phillip Cocu had also poor start at PSV Eindhoven 4 years ago.
Compare to Mircea Lucescu, Fenerbahce head coach Phillip Cocu does have an advantage as he has proved at PSV Eindhoven of being able to turn current side despite of having difficult period at the beginning.
With Cocu recieving lots of criticism and showing incapable of showing top level performance in 1st games, it needs to be reminded that he didnt start pretty well in his 1st season at Eindhoven where also team has went through big revision as he has ended league at 4th place. However, after that season he has brought 3 titles back-to-back and hence its important to note that Fenerbahce needs to be patient with Cocu if it wants to be successful at the future and should not carry on habit to sack coaches after bad seasons. It is true however that their is not much improvement at performance level with Cocu but as everyone he needs patience at least until new season.
It needs to be remembred that Fenerbahce is going through big revision in all of its fronts and it might be not right to be expecting big changes right away.
