What happened in Turkish football today? 03/05/2023

Both Fenerbahce and Sivasspor has shown controllable game at 1st leg of Turkish Cup

Turkish Cup semi-final 1st leg game has been ended with goalless draw as both sides has provided more controllable game which is being normal outcome for this stage game as both sides dont want to risk a lot prior to 2nd leg.

There was expectation that this game would been different compare to league game where Fenerbahce did win with 3:1 scoreline few days ago as Sivasspor were taking Turkish Cup more serious compare to league due of its situation in the tournament. It needs to be mentioned that there was still lots of willingness from Fenerbahce side as it did provide some very good chances and did lack in some moments last touch but still it didnt provide high amount of pressure both due of Sivasspor providing much more organised defence and also possibility of counter-attack. Taking account that Fenerbahce are seeing for double in this season, such performance could be highly anticipated from their side. Therefore with Fenerbahce playing previous game for win and this game to get an advantage for 2nd leg, such performance of them could be understood.

Sivasspor meanwhile did look to be much more compact at defence compare to league game and has also looked more creative at attack even through it is difficult to state for sure that it has provided enough pressure towards Fenerbahce. It needs to be still that Sivasspor did much better preparation for the game for 90 minutes and did learn some mistakes and taken some notes with its ineffective performance at the elague game. With both sides coming into 2nd leg in same results would keep Sivasspor chances alive with only problem for them would be that they are playing at away game even through with Fenerbahce performance at home would keep optimism for them.

Hence, 1st leg has been played with both sides providing more controllable game and not to lose game and therefore would keep all doors open for 2nd leg between both sides.

Basaksehirspor sees Turkish Cup as easiest route to get to Europe

With Basaksehirspor chances to get to the European spot via league route are getting lower and lower, it would be without doubt would be extra motivated for Turkish Cup especially after eliminating Galatasaray on previous stage.

Basaksehirspor as it is known has started this season in very high note with being seeing as one of the main league contenders with also enjoying few weeks leadership but following World Cup 2022 has went through into serious decline. Stating that, it still finds itself at the Turkish Cup and hence would be expected to be extra motivated and would be aiming to show strong confident performance against Ankaragucu. On paper it does look to be much more favourite but opponent did improve in recent weeks and hence it would need to show top level and organised game on all fields.

Basaksehirspor would be focussing to get its spot for European spots and it does look to be realistic to achieve that through league route and hence it would be extra motivated for this game.

Ankaragucu capable to show strong performance against Basaksehirspor

Despite of struggling season which Ankaragucu is going through Super League, it does provide pretty confident and strong performance at the Turkish Cup and would be aiming to continue to do so.

It also needs to be mentioned that since appointment Tolunay Kafkas, Ankaragucu did show lots of improvement with its performance and hence it would be continued to do so especially taking account of strong performance against Besiktas in this tournament and also pretty impressive against Fenerbahce at the league. Thefefore, Ankaragucu would be coming to this game with strong self-belief and would be seeking to get good outcome during 1st leg and afterwards aim for surprising outcome in 2nd leg at home with strong help of its supporters very likely.

On paper, Ankaragucu does look like underdogs but there are capable of getting good results due of hig confidence and good form in recent weeks.
