What happened in Turkish football today? 07/12/2017
Basaksehirspor has won game but didnt get to last 32 stage of Europa League.
Basaksehirspor has coming out to the game with an aim to win group leaders Braga during Europa League 6th week game hoping that Hoffenheim might also provide favour to them for last 16 stage. Even through Basaksehirspor has managed their part, Welliton goal from Ludogorets during 62nd minute didnt make Basaksehirspor to get to its aim.
Unfortunately, for Basaksehirspor poor start at the group stage has played an important role for them not to get at the last 16 stage since their got most important points at the last games including against Ludogorets who ended above them by 1 point at the end of group stage. Coming during today's game Basaksehirspor has shown very good performance with starting goal from Edin Visca during 10th minute and carrying on high level performance against team who arleady secured top position at the end of group stage. As been stated at the early stage of the tournament, current leaders of Super League not getting into the next stage has been inexperience at European games which has been especially present at the 1st 3 games at the Europa League. Still, needs to be admitted that for Basaksehirspor towards end of group stage recieved good results in last 2 weeks has shown that team has became adapted to European football and has gained in overall good experience from tournament which is positive sign.
As been stated Braga has been come out to the game against Basaksehirspor knowing that it has ended group stage at top position which did provide advantage to Basaksehirspor which it did use. In overall, Braga did have successful group stage and can gofar at the tournament.
Basaksehirspor did end group stage at high note but sadly it wasnt enough as Hoffenheim 1:1 game against Ludogorets was not enough for them to get to the Europa League last 32 stage but team did gain good experience at the tournament.
Konyaspor has drawn its last game at Europa League and has been eliminated.
As been mentioned beforehand Konyaspor has been coming out to the Europa League last game at the group stage in similar manner as was Basaksehirspor as it needed to win Viitoria and also await good result from Salzburg and Marseille game. However, both teams has ended with draw which led them to end group stage at 3rd place with 6 points.
It needs to be mentioned that Konyaspor did come out to the game with high focus and providing good attacking football believing that it can win game as it did beforehand against their opponents. This has led without trouble to finding goal at 15th minute from Bourabia and for most part of the game Konyaspor has been controlling game until conceding at 77th minute. Surely, team has felt even more pressure during game as very awaiting goal from Salzburg to Marseille wasnt coming and it did look like that game would end with goalless draw. Konyaspor as been mentioned did show improvement compare to previous season as it has gained 5 more points and has recieved its 1st win and if it would get to Europa League again next season or in near future their are reasons to expect that team would improve those results from them. Konyaspor has got an overall good experience but sadly its not in same level yet to be successful at tournament.
Viitoria has provided also pretty dissapointing performance and would be glad to end group stage with a draw as their ended up being weakest team of the group and has gained good experience from this tournament.
Konyaspor did get lots of great experience and certainly helped to players to improve and now team would aim to improve its performance at the Super League which it has shown so far in dissapointing manner.
Besiktas has proved itself to the Europe as it didnt lose any single game at Champions League group stage.
Besiktas has wrote history at the Champions League group stage with getting most amount of points in history of Turkish football as it got 14 points and most importantly it aims to carry on writing this history at the knockout stage.
So far, if looking at the overall performance Fenerbahce has managed to go furthest at the Champions League as it has reached to the quarter-final stage where it has lost to Chelsea, potential opponent to Besiktas during last 16 draw on 11th December. Coming to the game, Besiktas has managed to show once again performance at the level of this tournament as their had provided calm performance at the game where it didnt need points but in same time has aimed not to lose game or draw at their last game. RB Leipzig in other hand needed to win game and hence has provided high number of attacks at which Besiktas goalkeeper Tolga Zengin, who didnt recieve much playing time during this season has provided 10 saves out of which more than half has been qualified as goal positions. With this performance at the Champions League it is undoubtful that Besiktas would be looking forward for their opponents at the last 16 and also carry on its performance at the Super League.
Besiktas has time until start of last 16 games in February and without doubt would now focus to the Super League where it would be aiming to do catching up to the top position starting against Kayserispor on 10th December.
