What happened in Turkish football today? 29/02/2024

Galatasaray got unexpected result from Ankaragucu game.

Following unexpected loss from Fenerbahce to Ankaragucu, Fatih Karagumruk also has got surprising result against Galatasaray with 2:0 scoreline at the game where it has dominated game as it could have scored even more.

It was observed that Galatasaray didnt been much at the game as it didnt have any control of the ball which could be connected to the factor that there was lots of rotation at the team as team has put now to its priority Super League after also been relegated from Europa League. In fact similar argument could be given to Galatasaray as Fenerbahce as team did come out at the game with motivation to win game and with such squad to some extend did look like it didnt want to carry on this tournament. It didnt provide strong and organising game which been used from this side at home ground and didnt show right reaction as it also allowed opponent to create high number of dangerous chances.

Fatih Karagumruk did come out as expected as underdogs and there were belief that team would give into priority at staying at the league but side did provide strong and attacking game with looking at chances and could even score some more goals and hence got deserved win.

Galatasaray who only lost to Bayern Munich at home before this game did look surprising calm and didnt provide much pressure towards opponent goals and did look like it did come out to be relegated.

Trabzonspor reaches to semi-final of Turkish Cup.

Trabzonspor reaches to semi-final of the Turkish Cup thanks to the single goal from Edin Visca on 57th minute against Basaksehirspor as it sees following tournament as only aim for rest of the season.

When looking into performance of both sides it has been expected for this tie to be one of most excited between sides and scoreline might suggest that but  it needs to be mentioned that Trabzonspor did create much more chances especially during 1st half while Basaksehirspor did provide mainly defensive game so the result should not be tricky. Even through Trabzonspor did get back-to-back wins making it 4th win and been much more creative side, scoreline does show that it does need to improve an attacking game which tends to be main issue for the team both in Turkish Cup and Super League. Trabzonspor without did get an important momentum for rest of the season but it does need to improve performance.

Still, looking at overall performance it could be stated that Trabzonspor does take Turkish Cup seriously and did show it with its strong performance.

Besiktas showed some positive game against Konyaspor for 90 minutes

Besiktas in similar manner as Trabzonspor above is being currently motivated by winning possibly Turkish Cup and hence it did show its performance according to that against Konyaspor.

Even through Besiktas is still being pretty far from level of performance which would be expected from them in this period with Fernando Santos it did show some improvements from previous games and did provide signs that team is being on right track for sure. It did find goals in both halves and actually created some good chances in first minutes against Konyaspor. It is true that team did come out to game against opponent which was in poor condition, but it did show some important improvements with performance despite of same scoreline as it did raise tempo for 90 minutes compare to previous game where it seem to show good game for 2nd half only.

Besiktas hence did get motivational boost prior to derby game and did show that it can provide some good game but it would be difficult game for them without doubt.
