What happened in Turkish football today? 06/02/2020

Antalyaspor and Sivasspor didnt provide strong attacking game

League leaders Sivaspor has played Turkish Cup quarter-final game against with Antalyaspor without getting strong control of the game but it needs to be stated that it played with 10 men for most amount of the game and hence did get good scoreline of 0:0 at away game.

When comparing how clubs has performed so far during this season, it was expected for Sivasspor to come out as favourite and with Antalyaspor likely being aware of this it has led for them to provide controllable game and focussing into defensive game. Sivasspor especially prior being with 10 men did get some chances, but lack of strong creative has been observed in this game as it was visible during previous games in recent games. Therefore, it does look like pressure which been felt from team at being as leaders of the league tends to be affected Turkish Cup. Still, with playing 2nd half with 10 men due of red card of Isaac Cofie from very harsh foul, it needs to be noted that Sivasspor did provide good performance as Antalyaspor did provide some attacking performance during game. Still, with 0:0 scoreline and playing 2nd half of the tie it can still get qualify to semi-final.

Antalyaspor on their part aimed to also show controllable game but in similar manner as opponents it showed good defence but couldnt provide creativity in attack especially when their opponents did play with 10 men for 2nd half but when taking account that side is not showing very good performance in recent period it could see this outcome as good scoreline and would have small advantage in 2nd haf due of away goal rule. It would be expected that both sides would provide much more brave game in 2nd half.

Both sides could be satisfied with 0:0 scoreline, especially Sivasspor due of red card during end of 1st half, but it is clear tht both sides need to show better attacking game in 2nd leg.

Alanyaspor wanted win much more then Galatasaray.

Galatasaray has lost its 1st game in 2020 during Turkish Cup quarter-final 1st leg game against in-form Alanyaspor as it came out to the game without 7 main players while their replacements didnt provide expected performance.

It should be noted that without doubt Alanyaspor has shown with its performance that it wanted to win this game much more compare to their opponents as despite of providing some control to game in beginning to Galatasaray, it did get control of the game following some minutes and with finding its 1st goal on 20th minute from Bakasetas from set piece did provide much more confident performance. Coming to Galatasaray, this game does provide that level of performance and understanding from 2nd squad is not at same level as ideal 11. Meanwhile, it also needs to show that Alanyaspor, compare to their opponents in this game, provided much more focus as it does in Super League and with winning with 2:0 scoreline it did get strong advantage taking account how side performs in recent weeks for sure.

Alanyaspor hence does provide strong confident performance in both competitions while this performance for Galatasaray does show that side is not at great form as been seen in first view.

Fenerbahce did manage to beat heavy weather conditions.

Fenerbahce has got as expected pretty confident win against surprising side of this season Turkish Cup Kirklarispor with 3:0 scoreline and strong advantage in this tie, but it needs to be noted that it did play in difficult competition.

During start of this season, there has been strong view that Fenerbahce doesnt have alternative to Vedat Muriqi, but strong performance with 2 goals and generally on the day did provide view that Mevlut Erdinc is capable to take this role in upcoming games if its needed which is good advantage for team aiming for league title. Generally its been pretty calm game against Kirklarispor, opponent which still deserves lots of praise with its performance in tournament overall, and right now finds itself at making important step for semi-final stage where it is very likely to meet Trabzonspor. This game for sure would provide strong advantage for upcoming weeks in both competitions in sense of morale.

Fenerbahce has provided mainly calm performance in this weather conditions and did get scoreline which it was seeking for.
