What happened in Turkish football today? 16/02/2020
Trabzonspor slowly getting strong advantage for title.
Trabzonspor has got very important win against one of its direct rivals for title race as it has beat Sivasspor with 2:1 scoreline and ending week with 1 week advantage our Basaksehirspor and 2 points ahead of Sivasspor with having 1-game in hand.
Since Huseyin Cimsir has become head coach of the team, Trabzonspor has been noted with providing fast tempo performance which been raised by each game and this level of game carried on during this game with Sivasspor did have in some moments to catch up with that tempo even through it could be noted that their opponents did provide some improvements compare to last week. It could be stated comfortably that Trabzonspor did provide what could be qualified as performance of champions level providing strong performance, providing high balance between defence and attack with whole side aiming to get title and get there with providing strong performance. It needs to be noted that Alexander Sorloth has once again did provide key role with getting 1 goals on 4th minute which did play direct role for final outcome of this game and also providing tempo of the game. Trabzonspor looks to be very confident as side in this period and would come as strong favourite against Besiktas next week.
Sivasspor needs to be noted did provide slight improvement with its performance during this game, making it clear that their took Trabzonspor game in serious note but it could be stated that their did have some trouble with final touches which seems to be among of the key aspects to solve if it wants to get title in end of the season.
Trabzonspor without doubt got very important 3 points in this title race and slowly is getting into point at becoming main title contender both with performance and position at table.
Galatasaray got deserved but difficult win against Yeni Malatyaspor
Galatasaray has raised to 3rd place and found itself 2 point behind league leaders Trabzonspor, even through leaders have point 1 game in hand, with getting against Yeni Malatyaspor from penalty goal from Adem Buyuk in end of 1st half.
This been one of the games during 2nd half of the season for Galatasaray which is has been struggled which been due of difficult game it had in midweek at Turkish Cup against Alanyaspor and also for Yeni Malatyaspor high level organising football against opponents. Despite of having some difficult time and arguably not providing performance which it seeked for, Galatasaray players still manage to play with high focus and controlling ball which does show how much side did control ball and followed instructions of head coach Fatih Terim. Main reason therefore for Galatasaray during this game to have some difficulties against Yeni Malayaspor been some physical tiredness, and even through this blog doesnt tend to expect this tiredness excuse, taking account midweek this could be seen as one excuse. It is here important to note that Galatasaray has ended games which it been with sides who are outside of title race and real test for them would be starting from next week with Fenerbahce game.
Yeni Malatyaspor meanwhile needs to be noted did provide good performance, one of their best for 2020, as it did manage to create chances against difficult game providing some chances which could led them get outcome their seeked for with only last touches shot did prevent them. Still this outcome does provide some hope for upcoming games.
As been stated above, Galatasaray did end its period of teams against outside of title race with getting 100% in this 6 game period, but now would start playing against its direct rivals and would become more clear how much its being title contenders.
Fenerbahce performing is getting worse as we enter to no-return weeks in league.
Fenerbahce performance during Super League 22nd week game against Ankaragucu which it lost with 2:1 scoreline, has provided shockingly poor performance which could not be tolerated when its cant afford to lose game in title race.
Without doubt, Fenerbahce which been praised 4 weeks ago following Basaksehirspor game, didnt manage to win game since then and more worrying its performance has been reduced by each game in the moment when it cant afford to do so as their is no turning point. In fact, if it manage last 3 games, it would been now leaders of the league but right now is being among outsiders among title contenders with reducing point difference with leaders to 6 points with 5 teams above them. It needs to be noted that Vedat Muriqi without doubt has seem to drop of his performance losing effectiveness and creativity which is also could be seen as big surprise since it would been expected for him to provide his best performance in this stage. This game most importantly provides huge worry for Galatasaray game in next week, which could also mean it could lose its 1st game at home since 1999 if it provides such poor performance against in-form historical rivals.
Fenerbahce is not getting results in recent weeks and has provided its worst game during this season against Ankaragucu so its crucial for them to start getting result to keep its hope for title arrive.
