What happened in Turkish football today? 13/02/2020

Antalyaspor got to semi-final at cup thanks to away goal

Antalyaspor has qualified to Turkish Cup semi-final stage thanks to Dogukan Sirik which has helped to get an away goal rule from current league leaders and this result could be seen as slight surprise due of not very good season which Antalyaspor is having.

Stating that when looking with recent results of two teams, Antalyaspor in fact did come out in better form for this game and has been highly motivated to the game even through both games has ended with draw. It needs to be noted that Antalyaspor didnt come out in perfect condition as their plane has been cancelled yesterday which led them to travel to Sivas and there is been talks that game could be postponed, even through due of snow being stopped snowing it took place.  With all this circumstances and also getting with goal behind from Yusuf Oztekin goal during 1st half, it was important character shown by Antalyaspor to get back with providing strong confident performance able to raise and provide good defensive game during 2nd half.

On other hand, Sivasspor does seem to provide decline of performance with getting this draw among losing points and does seem to get under pressure as league is getting closer to the end. Even through their did show some strong performance on 1st half it didnt manage to carry on strong performance during 2nd half when their had also conceded goal on 49th minute and side does need to show improvement especially when it going to play very important and crucial for them against Trabzonspor this weekend.

Antalyaspor has managed to get to semi-final thanks to away goal and would now meet with Alanyaspor at Meditterean Sea derby.

Trabzonspor didnt have issues with Erzurumspor.

With winning its 1st leg game against Erzurumspor with 5:0 scoreline, Trabzonspor this time with younger squad which heavily consisted of academy players has got this time 4:1 win and has got into semi-final stage with 9:1 aggregate scoreline.

Without doubt Trabzonspor head coach would be feeling very satisfied with such performance from this alternative squad as even through it did get confident win during 1st leg and did come out to more or less formality against 1 division lower side, did provide strong attacking focussed game with finding 4 goals. Guilherme who meanwhile did get transferred to strengthen side attacking performance which would be crucial for fighting at title race in both competitions did find 2 goals which does provide view that he is highly motivated and concentrated to play his role in such crucial role as we are entering to this season. It needs to be noted that Huseyin Cimsir in such short period did manage to create strong attacking side which frequently is looking for high number of chances as it did during this game. Trabzonspor got into mood of getting trouble, but in Turkish Cup it would have difficult games with Fenerbahce.

Erzurumspor who did provide so far good performance as it got to quarter-final stage with beating Besiktas in previous stage didnt manage to provide anything. Still it should be satisfied with cup
performance in overall and now would focus to get back to Super League next season.

Trabzonspor had an easy and confident tie against Erzurumspor and most important has kept their motivation at high note with this win.

Galatasaray tried to show comeback but 1st leg result led them to be relegated

Galatasaray has been eliminated from Turkish Cup quarter-final stage against Alanyaspor despite of winning game with 3:1 scoreline but 1st leg result of 2:0 scoreline has led opponents to get into semi-final stage.

Galatasaray without doubt did pay price for coming out with weaker squad during 1st leg game where it has lost to 2:0 but it needs to be given praise for side to provide high level performance making it clear that their have all aims as side to provide fighting performance for turning around this tie, but conceded goal from Bammou which made scoreline to 1:1 did mean that Galatasaray would needed to find 3 goals within 60 minutes, which would been difficult task as Alanyaspor as side is being in very good form right now with being among title contenders during this season. Alanyaspor did provide right tactic for game since it was aware that their opponents would provide strong attacking game and did respond in such manner making sure that Galatasaray didnt get much position and even through it did concede 2 goals and had nervous ending of the game, it did get what it was seeking for with patient football.

Galatasaray hence did provide strong performance with comeback but 1st leg poor performance for sure costed them ticket to semi-final of Turkish Cup for sure.
