What happened in Turkish football today? 29/03/2018

Ahmet Agaoglu has announced his Trabzonspor CEO candidacy.

Turkish Golf Federation CEO, Ali Agaoglu has become 1st and what looks to be only CEO candidate for Trabzonspor as it became clear that an election would take place 7-8 April as it didnt manage to obrain majority to make election legitimate.

Ahmet Agaolgu during his statements to the media has stated that he decided to become CEO candidate for Trabzonspor at the last minute of deadline day as noone has called for an election. Even through this kind of statement does put some worries from outside view regarding his seriousness and possibility to get that position, it is known that he has enough information regarding of club including economical and academy positions as he made it clear during his statements. He also showed realistic view for situation at the club, stating that club is uncapable to get high level results and would need time and patience from administration and fans for glory days to be back. Being CEO of Golf Federation Agaoglu does give hope for being legimitate and strong candidate to move team forward.

It is known that number of people who are involved at the team has wanted for Agaoglu to become CEO candidate during previous elections but this is 1st time when he decided to run for post which looks like he would be sole candidate.

Cuneyt Cakir and his assistants has been selected among referees for World Cup 2018.

FIFA has announced today that one of the most experienced and known Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir with assistants Bahattin Duran and Tarik Camdal will be included among referees at the World Cup 2018.

Even through it could be criticised into level of performance of Cakir during this season he is still been approved for important and crucial games at Champions League and Europa League and in fact could be appointed in upcoming games this season as quarter-final stages of both tournament is going to start next week. But it needs to be stated, in all fairness, that Cuneyt Cakir is not going at the best form to World Cup compare to previous times and might get some pressure for this factor, even through without doubt he is in level to cope with it and everyone surely would hope he would be appointed at knockout stage of the World Cup. Sadly, Cuneyt Cakir and his team would be only representatives from Turkey in Russia during this World Cup and hopefully would do great job making everyone proud of him.

Cuneyt Cakir selection to World Cup regardless of some criticisms does show that he is among best referees around world and has high aims to carry on this badge during his job at World Cup 2018.

Fenerbahce wants for league titles between 1923-1959 to be counted.

Argument regarding of including cups which have been won prior to 1st Super League season (then 1.League) of 1959 but after formation of TFF in 1923 to include all of the cups to the list has been going for long time, with Fenerbahce planning to open case against TFF.

There has been many talks if titles prior to 1959 inagural season should be included including tournaments which has been similar to Super League however their has been lots of talks stating that some of this tournament has been organised more like Turkish Cup and hence should not be counted as league title. In here, its need to be reminded that Besiktas has managed to add 2 titles from 1957 and 1958 from tournament which has been similar to league. If Fenerbahce manages to include those tournaments than it would raise its league title tally from 19 to 28, Besiktas from 15 to 20 while Galatasaray would only add 1 title with making totally rally 21. In some league, which includes Germany, prior league system titles has been included while some countries make it clear that it is different tournaments. This case has been taken place for long time and chances for Fenerbahce to get what it wants are once again slim even when it open case.

It is unsurpursing that Fenerbahce has demanded most for this inclusion as it becomes main gainer of the status and would like to acknowlege its league titles prior to league system as it wants to be seen as best team at club and feels uneasy for previous glories to be ignored.
