What happened in Turkish football today? 07/02/2017
Fenerbahce has passed Giresunspor and would now meet with Besiktas.
Fenerbahce has managed to get to the semi-final stage of Turkish Cup as it going to meet against Besiktas at the game which could be seen as early final of the tournament. With Fenerbahce winning its 1st leg game with 2:1 scoreline it has has repeated this scoreline and ended tie with 4:2 aggregate.
The game has been played with two different halves as Giresunspor has found an early goal at the game which has provided much more attacking game as the team with 1 more goal could bring them semi-final stage. However, as Samed Karagoc has found goal during 18th minute game has led Fenerbahce to have much more confident scoreline and Aatif goal has ended this tie which led for a team to have much calmer 2nd half as Giresunspor has reduced its attacking game as it stopped believing to themselves. Despite of Fenerbahce starting game not in way how it wanted it has turned out this tie around and has get control of the game without Giresunspor to get any hope to get into this tie after 1:1 scoreline and has provided like a team which has tie in its own control. Fenerbahce now get an important motivation for Basaksehirspor game during Super League 21st week which is important game for title race right now.
Giresunspor has shown pretty brave football from start of game and has shown attacking game but after 1:1 scoreline has lost self-belief. Still, Giresunspor could be see as main surprise of the tournament as it has managed to pass Basaksehirspor in previous stage and did provide some worrying performance to Fenerbahce. In addition its furthest team to get so far from lower division.
Fenerbahce would now have very hard and crucial 2 leg game with Besiktas as it promises to be an exciting game aiming to the Turkish Cup final this season.
Akhisarspor qualifies to semi-final with intense tie with Kayserispor.
Turkish Cup 2nd leg game between Kayserispor and Akhisarspor has been ended up being very exciting game with 2:2 scoreline as this blog from beginning has stated that this tie would be most toughest at the quarter-final stage. With 1:0 win from 1st leg game Akhisarspor win, the team has qualified to semi-final stage.
Both sides has given their best as it was only small advantage from 1st leg to Akhisarspor which meant that team needed to find goal while Kayserispor could only seek for a win which has led for both sides to provide an attacking game. Prior to game Kayserispor head coach Marius Sumudica did state that he would be coming for a win but when coming to the Europa League spot has admitted that its easier to get through league title as their are tough opponents. Therefore, Kayserispor will not feel too dissapointed to be eliminated. Coming to Akhisarspor as it far from Europa League spots right now it could be easier for them to go through this stage which could explain why the team has been more willing to get to the semi-final compare to Kayserispor. Meanwhile, Akhisarspor player Ataseven has once again played an important role at this game as he also was only player to score during 1st leg at last minute.
Akhisarspor would have a tough game at semi-final as it would either meet with Galatasaray or title holders Konyaspor as 1st leg game has ended with 1:1 scoreline.
Besiktas has gained motivation prior to intense and difficult period it would have in upcoming weeks.
With an comfortable win against Genclerbirligi with 4:1 agreggate scoreline, Besiktas has become 1st semi-finals of Turkish Cup as it has provided much more economical football compare to 1st leg game both with the performance and squad provided by Senol Gunes.
Besiktas in fact didnt start game pretty well as it allowed their opponents to get into 2 dangerous positions since Genclerbirligi were aware that away goal from 1st leg could mean that their only need to find 2 goals. However, header by Mustafa Pektemek from corner kick during 25th minute has led for game to be over and Besiktas ending the tie with this goal as it would be difficult for Genclerbirligi to find 3 goals. Following Pektemek, the game tempo has been reduced as Besiktas has got what it wanted while motivation and focus from Genclerbirligi has been over as team would now focus into diffucult schedule both at the Super League and Champions League. This win was important for them to go for upcoming games with high motivation and focus without doubt.
Besiktas are in good mood as their are at the all 3 tournaments which is rarity at Turkish football and have chance to finish glory at all of them even through its difficult task and it might end season without title.
