What happened in Turkish football today? 06/05/2024

Fenerbahce has reduced chances for title from very thin to almost impossible.

Fenerbahce has made their title chances, which arleady been pretty vague, even more difficult after ending Konyaspor game with goalless draw as Istanbul giant did look to be demotivated during game while Konyaspor did get crucial point for survival at the league.

Fenerbahce was without doubt aiming to get win in such crucial game and keep their title chances alive and also provide view that it would be fighting until last minute of the game including game against Galatasaray, however generally factor of 4 points between clubs and also Galatasaray beating Sivasspor with 6:1 did have an impact to mentality and psychology of the team as even through it has been side which did control game, it didnt provide strong fighting spirit even through it did get 2-3 chances which could be seen as goal chances. It is true that Konyaspor which did play for survival did provide good defensive game but usually Fenerbahce was capable to find solutions but it did lack that. Fenerbahce still has title chances, even through are being very low, but with such psychological condition its not even clear if it would use this chances.

Coming to Konyaspor, it has got very important point at the race for survival and could even won game if it provided higher tempo of the game as it got 2 point advantage from relegation zone and has gained an important confidence prior crucial survival game against Samsunspor.

With 6 point difference from Galatasaray and 3 weeks to go, with one of them against them at away game, mathematically has some chances for title but this could be achieved if Galatasaray losses points at least 6 points.

Galatasaray is showing dominant performance as we enter to last 3 weeks.

Galatasaray has got pretty an easy win against Sivasspor with 6:1 scoreline which did come both from Istanbul giant being specifically detirmined to win game and make an important step for title and also pretty poor game from Sivasspor.

As it became pretty normal recently, Galatasaray has once again won an opponent with a confident result and game at the game which was expected to be tough as Sivasspor didnt lose for 5 weeks prior to this game. Following slow and controllable game from Galatasaray for first 10 minutes, Galatasaray has reached tempo and dominance which did lead them to find 6 goals as Sivasspor did make lots of mistakes and hardly had possession of the ball with scoring goal has been only shot into goal more or less. Galatasaray is not only winning games in recent weeks but is doing that with dominant performance and hence it is moving closer and closer for title as there is possibility for them to win title next week.

Galatasaray did tend to raise tempo during games as entering to last weeks and with such performance it doesnt like it would have issue but again  this is football and it cant relax until it gets title.

Besiktas would give its all against Ankaragucu to get to Turkish Cup final.

Besiktas has been seeing Turkish Cup as its only last chances to end season at the top following such poor season and it would be aiming to use its home advantage against Ankaragucu during 2nd leg with goalless aggregate scoreline.

Besiktas it needs to be mentioned continues to be showing its poor performance in recent weeks but did show one of the best performances in this season against Rizespor and this result would provide needed confidence and motivation prior to such crucial game and it would need to be showing once again good and strong performance. Role of supporters would also play an important role, as during this season it has been mainly remembered with showing strong protest chant but in this game it would be needed to provide strong push and make players fight even more for final.

Besiktas are seeing this game as saviour of such poor season and hence it would be expected to show strong attacking game for sure.

Galatasaray has got an easy win against in-form Sivasspor

Galatasaray has got a confident win against Sivasspor with 6:1 scoreline at the game which has been expected to be one of the toughest games during this season but with Mauro Icardi especially outstanding performance has made task much more easier.

Galatasaray did have slightly slow start as it did look into measuring of capacity of Sivasspor and analyse its strength but as game has developed Istanbul giant has rose its tempo and dominance of the game which has led for team to show believable and attacking game with finding great goals back-to-back from Hakim Ziyech, Mauro Icardi especially showing an outstanding performance. It also needs also to be mentioned that Mauro Icardi without doubt has shown one of his best games of the season as he has been involved at every goal with scoring 2 goals and also providing 4 assists. It also needs to be mentioned that Sivasspor has been especially poor on this day but it needs to be mentioned that Galatasaray didnt provide much more chances with its pressure and tempo of the game as team for sure made an important step for league title with all players showing top level game.

Sivasspor which didnt lose for last 5 games and with providing very strong and outstanding performance has been specifically poor for 90 minutes in this game as it didnt keep possession very successfully and couldnt respond to opponent tempo game as team head coach Bulent Uygun would need to figure out for such game of opponent.

Galatasaray did get very confident win at what was expected to be tough game and has got strong momentum as it rose point difference to 7 points with game in hand while only 3 games left for them.

Trabzonspor are risking to lose 3rd spot.

Side which needed to win more during Black Sea derby game has got it, as Samsunspor has managed to get 3:1 scoreline against Trabzonspor which has focussed to make its 3rd spot more stronger.

Unstable performance of Trabzonspor has been continued once again, as Trabzonspor didnt provide focus and fighting spirit in similar level as did Samsunspor which did provide organised and focussed performance for 90 munutes which let them to get a crucial win which could be key for them to stay at top league next season. Coming to Trabzonspor, it did come out to this game with 6 point advantage from Basaksehirspor which been reduced to 3 points and with 3 games left in this season this relaxation could cost them 3rd spot as team would come out to Turkish Cup semi-final 2nd leg game 8th May.

Trabzonspor as been noted continues showing unstable performance and this has been pretty visible during this game against Samsunspor as it could be running risk of losing 3rd spot in the table.

Fenerbahce would need to be creative at attack.

Fenerbahce would be coming to crucial game against Konyaspor to keep its title chances alive as it would be playing game against team which is playing for survival and did change head coach in midweek.

Fenerbahce is reported to be highly motivated and concentrated for this game as it is still believes that it could be winning title as it should and hence it would be accepted to provide strong and attacking game against Konyaspor and very likely to look for an early goal to reduce stress as for Konyaspor without doubt 1 point would be very good result. Konyaspor quite understantably would very likely provide a defensive game so Feenrbahce would need to show patient and creative game at attack to find goals which it would need.

Fenerbahce are coming out as favourites but it would need to show creative attacking to overpass organised defensive game of opponent.

What happened in Turkish football today? 04/05/2024

Samsunspor has wanted this game much more than Trabzonspor.

Samsunspor got suprising win at home ground against Trabzonspor with 3:1 scoreline as it provided strong and organised team while Trabzonspor who has slight advantage at 3rd spot did look to be relaxed.

It needs to be noted that this team has been important for both sides as Samsunspor has been playing for survival at the league while Trabzonspor did play to make its 3rd spot more stronger and it could be mentioned that team which did play for survival has been more concentrated and motivated. Trabzonspor does provide unstable performance during whole season and this has been case tonight as despite of having some control of the game, it didnt manage to get dominance and full control of the game which would been expected for them and couldnt both overpass opponent organise defence and by themselves didnt show good defence on the field.

Samsunspor meanwhile did get an important win for themselves as it did make their position to stay at the league more likely as it got 8 point advantage for now from relegation zon and this win would provide confidence for last 3 games.

Trabzonspor seems to be showing too much relaxation believing that it had secured 3rd spot but it need to get back into themselves as this relaxation could lead them to lose that spot which could also raise some protests from its supporters.

Besiktas has regained confidence as we are entering to last games of this season

Besiktas has regained confidence and morale as we are entering both to last 3 games of the Super League season and also prior to 2nd leg of semi-final of Turkish Cup which it would be playing on 7th May.

With vague possibility at ending season at 3rd spot or at worst at the 4th place and also with a priority of winning Turkish Cup to have some ogod ending of this poor season, Besiktas needed to show top level game and it needs to be mentioned that even through game did end at close scoreline of 3:2, Besiktas did deserve win as their showed confident performance at the attack and did show good reaction both when it got behind 1:0 as it equalised within 2 minutes but even more it did look for winning goal until end of the game as Worsall did score at last minute. Taking account that Rizespor also showed strong fight during game this could be seen as good outcome for Besiktas.

Hence, Besiktas did get very important win and did provide confidence boost as we are entering to last games of this season.

Galatasaray would play one of its hardest and crucial 90 minutes as end of season is getting close.

Galatasaray would be coming out for one of the toughest games at the last route at title race as it would be playing in form Sivasspor which did get some good scorelines during last 5 games which includes draw against Fenerbahce.

As we are entering to last 4 games of one of the most exciting title races in recent history, Galatasaray does have an advantage of 4 points but it would be playing against one of the crucial games as Sivasspor does provide some good performances in recent weeks and does find itself at low chances for getting European spots which would provide some confidence boost. Galatasaray however does have some advantages as it would be playing at home as it would be getting some crucial push from its supporters and also with getting some good and confident results in recent weeks thanks to Muslera and Icardi performances. Still, it needs to be mentioned that Galatasaray would need to provide some extra defensive game as it would be playing against Rey Minaj which is playing at great form at recent weeks.

Galatasaray would be coming out as favourite but Sivasspor would be expected to provide some serious issues in duration of 90 minutes for sure.

Besiktas has regained confidence prior to Turkish Cup game against Rizespor.

Besiktas has got an important win against Rizespor at home ground with 3:2 scoreline as team has hence got crucial win for top 4 position which would mean it would get European spots and also regained morale and confidence prior to Turkish Cup semi-final 2nd leg game against Ankaragucu.

It needs to be noted that Besiktas did show signs of willigness and in fact did show very good response after conceding an early goal on 5th minute as it did find an equalised with Colley after 2 minutes. With taking account that Rizespor also did come out for win as it tried to keep its European football spots alive, Besiktas did provide some positive football with looking for goals and also control of the game and did create some important issues. Despite of all that, it needs to be mentioned winning goal did come at the end of the game from crucial game from Worsall which did show that there were differences of how team performed both in defence and attack and since side needs to improve its defensive game especially prior to game against Ankaragucu at semi-final but still Besiktas did show some positive game and does provide some positive view for last 3 games and Turkish Cup.

As been noted, Rizespor did also provide some good performance as it did come out for win as it aiming for European places and to some extend did lose 2 points due of unlucky goal it has missed from Joe Worrall. Still, this performance does provide some positive view for last 3 games at the season.

Besiktas hence did win an important game with good performance at attacking game especially and did regain confidence for last 3 games at the league but most important for 2nd leg of Turkish Cup final against Ankaragucu.

A point for both Trabzonspor and Samsunspor will be good result.

Trabzonspor would be aiming to make its 3rd spot position even more stronger as 4 weeks are left until end of the season as it would be playing Black Sea derby game at away game.

It needs to be mentioned that both sides to have different aims in the end of the season but to some extend both are getting close to achieve it as even point for both sides would provide even more advantage to achieve it. With Trabzonspor having 5 point advantage over Basaksehirspor and Samsunspor being 6 points from relegation zone both sides would aim to show calm but same time targeted game. With looking into form of Trabzonspor, regardless how unstable it is, still would be looking good as an aim to end season at 3rd spot is getting close.

Trabzonspor are favourite but Samsunspor would be expected to show some organised game to get at least point for sure.

Hatayspor has terminated contract with Volkan Demirel

Hatayspor has terminated contract with its head coach Volkan Demirel as side didnt manage to win during recent 4 weeks as team aims to stay at the league.

As it is known, it was expected for Hatayspor to have difficult season due of earthquake which took place in last February as team is not playing at home and even through it did start season in surprising strong manner, this factors did play its role. It could be unfair to state that Volkan Demirel could be blamed for such poor result but it is clear that he is unable to find solutions as he stated himself some weeks ago and hence this decision has been made between parties. Stating that Volkan Demirel for sure would get special place at club and whole city due of his positive actions and statements following devastating earthquake at Hatay last February.

With 4 weeks to go, Hatayspor would be aiming to turn around its poor result with new coach likely from within club but again team's effort should be praised as it was team which had most difficult conditions during this season.

Besiktas might not be concentrated towards Rizespor game.

With getting 6 points behind Trabzonspor during race for 3rd spot with 4 weeks to go and also dropping to 5 points following loss to Fenerbahce, Besiktas would be meeting with Rizespor with an aim to win game.

Stating that, it needs to be mentioned that Besiktas is currently giving main focus towards Turkish Cup and seems to be losing concentration of the Super League and hence it would be difficult to call them specifically favourites for game as Rizespor which does aim to have good season and also playing against big 4 side which is being at good form might easily provide much more focus. Besiktas does seem to be having an issue with having strong concentration towards league even if with Serdar Topraktepe and hence team is not seen as clear favourite.

Besiktas does have lack of focussing towards league and Rizespor could easily this factor to its own advantage during this league game.

Arguments regarding an early TFF CEO election is carrying on being heated up.

An issue regarding petition of an early election is carrying on right now at the Turkish football community as TFF has made statement that it has recieved 109 signings for petitions with 15 out of them being illigitimate.

With number of clubs openly calling for an early election for TFF CEO election, TFF CEO Mehmet Buyukeksi is refusing for date to be changed as he did show similar actions on his questionable previous decisions which only raised tensions and this issue could continue to do currently. It is known that number of clubs are showing strong anger and request for election to be taking place before 18th July and without doubt this tension would continue to raise between bodies.

It doesnt look as been noted for tension to be reduced soon and our blog would carry on following all recent developments of this issue.

Besiktas has offered Deniz Ozek sports director position

Bayer Leverkusen as it is known is having a historical season in Bundesliga and DFP Cup and now are focussed to win Europa League and this high level performance has been part of everyone which includes Derin Ozek. Hence, it is pretty expected to see for Besiktas which plans to make an important changes and make once again winning team towards him and negotiations between sides has begun with Ozek has given 2-days to make final decision.

Visit of Besiktas CEO Hasan Arat among talking with Ozet also includes negotiaitons with number of head coaches and we would follow all developments on this matter.

Mehmet Buyukeksi aims to use potential successful Euro 2024 campaign as key for reelection.

TFF has once again stated that CEO election would be taking place on 18th July as been announced before hand with defending its decision for possible negative impact it can have towards Turkish National Team performance at Euro 2024.

According to TFF, change of administration and new name at top spot could lead for loss of concentration and uncertainty of national team at Euro 2024. It needs to be mentioned that taking account that both technical staff led by Vincenzo Montella and also players will not be much affected as this things do happen at club football without much negative aspects. It is clear that TFF CEO Mehmet Buyukeksi which seems to defend himself mainly due of success of national team is aiming to use possible successful tournament at Euro 2024 as strong advantage to get reelected even if he didnt announce his candidacy.

It needs to be mentioned that TFF CEO Mehmet Buyukeksi is playing smart election role but it might not give result he seeks for even if Turkey will have good campaign in Germany.

Rey Minaj has recovered from injury.

Sivasspor has recieved an important positive news prior to crucial game against Galatasaray as its main player Rey Minaj has recovered from injury and did attend training session.

Rey Minaj did have very good season all year long but did especially raise performance in recent weeks and been main reason for back-to-back positive results including draw against Fenerbahce. With having such development it could be stated that Sivasspor would be able to provide some difficult moments in the Galatasaray goal in upcoming game without doubt compare to if he wasnt available to play.

Rey Minaj without doubt would be focussed into providing strong game with extra motivaiton and would provide some issues to Fernando Muslera.

Dries Mertens has made 1-year extension deal with Galatasaray

It is reported that Galatasaray did make an extension deal with its player Dries Mertens for another year as he is seen to be one of the key players during this season and upcoming period.

Dries Mertens due of his experience and strong performance at the midfielding has played an important role with team strong performance in last 2 seasons and taking account that player is being happy in Galatasaray and in Turkey in general this extension should not be seen as big surprise. There is high opportunity that this would be his last season as player and he would be joining technical staff for next season.

Dries Mertens has been among main priorities at internal transfer and this development would be seen as positive everyone involved at club.

TFF CEO election very likely to be taking place on 18th July.

Gaziantep CEO Memik Yilmaz has announced that club is supporting to have TFF CEO election on 18th July as it does look to be date which election would be taking place as time to gather signatures for petition to have earlier is getting less.

Club's Union action for gathering petition signatures to call for an earlier TFF election from date which was announced from current administration is getting limited as it didnt manage to get enough signings which been asked for. Since TFF needs to go through decision within 30 days for election, its getting into point when if signings would be gathered would not provide much difference as earlier it could have an election is end of June. Therefore, it would be looking that clubs would get into this realisation and accept an election date to be as 18th July, date which been originally offered by TFF.

Hence, it would be reasonable to assume that election will be taking place in original date with more clubs accepting that date in upcoming period.

Trabzonspor aims to extend loan deal with Paul Onuachu

It is reported that Trabzonspor did start negotiations with its Paul Onuachu extension of loan deal with Southampton as team aims to extend loan deal for another season.

With having such dissapointing season from Trabzonspor viewpoint, it could be mentioned that one of the key players in the team during this season has been Paul Onuachu especially with his header skills during corners thanks to his height. It is reported that Trabzonspor has started loan negotiations with Southampton and team could be using factor of Onuachu to be happy at Trabzonspor to its advantage.

It would be interesting to see how Southampton would respond to this request from Trabzonspor as we would follow all developments in this matter.

Sergen Yalcin will have negotiations with different clubs after season is over.

Antalyaspor head coach Sergen Yalcin has announced that he would have negotiations with clubs for his appointment after season ends, as he is reported to be main candidate for Besiktas.

With being legendary player at Besiktas during 1990's and also winning title as head coach, its quite naturally for Sergen Yalcin to be seen as main candidate and there is also lots of talks that there is deal made but Yalcin did state severall time that theire is no talks with club yet and all are this being rumours. He announced that he would focus entirely negotiations for appointment after current season is over starting with plans which his current team has with him.

Besiktas is seen to be main candidate for Sergen Yalcin and it does look to be discussed topic between two at media and we would follow all developments at our account.
