What happened in Turkish football today? 06/04/2023

Fenerbahce enters to Turkish Cup semi-final with confident win against Kayserispor

Fenerbahce got confident win against Kayserispor during Turkish Cup quarter-final game with 4:1 scoreline and hence has got motivational boost following dramatic loss to Besiktas at the league.

Without doubt, following dramatic loss in the league against Besiktas which also reduced its title chances, it needs to provided some reaction in its next game which has been during this quarter-final game at Turkish Cup. Therefore, Fenerbahce didnt only needed to win game but would need to do so in confident manner and they have done that. Apart of some short period which Kayserispor did provide some good performance in start of the game with finding an equaliser, Fenerbahce did control game for most amount of game with controlling tempo how it wanted during 2nd half. It needs to be mentioned that it has been also good opportunity for Serdar Dursun to be starting game and staying for 90 minutes which he did good job with good assists and also an goal. It needs also stated that supporters has shown reaction towards administration to resign after team has scored sending strong message to Ali Koc during game and also William Arao who has hinted that Jorge Jesus should leave to Brasil national team.

Kayserispor it needs to be mentioned did have started game in pretty strong and confident manner and has thrown good reaction to conceded goal on 8th minute with providing positive attacking game as it got rewarded with a goal. However, as game has been played and it has conceded goal it did reduce its effective game and towards 2nd half has given whole half to opponent. It would be harsh to state that Kayserispor didnt play for win but it has given up too early without doubt.

Fenerbahce would now be meeting against Sivasspor and it needs to be stated that on paper it has high chances to win title as its only being top 4 side at the tournament with showing good performance.

Galatasaray continues to show decline with its performance.

Even through it could be stated that Galatasaray did provide pretty good performance against Basaksehirspor and did in fact get back from behind twice, it still didnt want game as same as its opponents.

It needs to be mentioned that Galatasaray community due of its loss to Basaksehirspor at Turkish Cup quarter-final are pointing to referees and also Central Referee Committee CEO Lale Orta and if there were some questionable decision, Galatasaray needs to be aware that there is decline of performance at the team at the recent games. As it is been clear in previous season, if clubs are giving too much focus into referees there seems to be decline with results. Galatasaray are being leaders with 9 points with extra game from Fenerbahce and with 10 games to be played there is still lots of games to be won and hence it cant afford to lose concentration.

Galatasaray are not showing same dominance as their did prior to devastating earthquake and break from games this weekend for them could help to solve this issues.

Basaksehirspor looked more motivated at game

Basaksehirspor has been much more focussed and motivated for game with possible having some impact from losing to Galatasaray with 7:0 scoreline earlier this season and hence did come to game with strong message to opponent and everyone in football community.

Basaksehirspor did start game at high note with providing some positive game and did found pretty good goal without being affected from disallowed goal from opponent. Basaksehirspor among always getting ahead and showing good attacking game, has also provided some good defensive performance and showing signs that they did homework from loss against Galatasaray earlier this season as it looked more organised and did make same mistakes. Even through there wasnt big difference with performance and willingness from both sides, Basaksehirspor did want game more and got well-deserved win.

Basaksehirspor hence would be now meeting with Ankaragucu at semi-final which promises to be pretty exciting quality games as both sides has set an eye for final of the tournament.
